Job description

Job Title: Community Engagement Specialist
Job Type: Part-Time, Contract (10–15 hours/week through end of October)
Location: Remote (must be available to work between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM ET)
Start Date: Early July (target)

About the Role:

The Community Engagement Specialist will support the internal communications team of a national non-profit by fostering meaningful engagement within its internal intranet and online communities. Working closely with a small team, this role is central to creating a vibrant, connected, and well-moderated digital environment for staff across the organization.

This part-time contract role is ideal for someone with a passion for building community, answering questions, and using data to drive insight. You don’t need to be a subject matter expert—you just need to know how to connect people with the right resources, and nurture community participation through moderation, reporting, and consistent engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Moderate internal community platforms to maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging environment.

Engage with users by responding to questions and encouraging participation.

Compile weekly lists of unanswered questions to flag for subject matter experts.

Build connections among users by directing questions or discussions to the right people.

Monitor and audit posts to ensure compliance with community standards.

Report on community health and engagement using tools such as Power BI.

Establish engagement benchmarks and surface insights through monthly reports.

Collaborate with internal teams on special projects and communication efforts.

Qualifications:

Experience in community management, moderation, or online engagement (required).

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to connect people.

Comfortable working in a self-directed environment with minimal oversight.

Experience with data analysis and reporting tools (Power BI preferred).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

Previous experience with internal communication platforms or closed communities is a plus.

Background in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

Ideal Candidate Has:

A passion for fostering inclusive, welcoming communities.

Patience, curiosity, and a “dot-connector” mindset.

A desire to support and elevate the user experience in a professional setting.

An ability to toggle between community engagement and data/reporting work with ease.

Weekly commitment of 10–15 hours.

Role runs through end of October, with potential for extension.

Remote position; flexible hours, but must work within 9:00 AM–4:00 PM ET.

Reporting to the internal communications team lead.

This is a great opportunity for a community-minded professional who enjoys meaningful engagement, connecting people with answers, and using data to measure impact. If you’re someone who loves supporting others and helping a digital community thrive—we’d love to hear from you.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $30to $35an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
