Job description

This role is a key player on our operations team. The Community Engagement & Sales team ensures Discovery Lab’s mission, programs, and facilities reach their fullest potential. The Manager builds meaningful relationships with community partners, clients, and the guests we serve, shaping program and service delivery that stays relevant to our guests and consistently exceeds client expectations.

The Community Engagement & Sales Manager leads this mission forward, connecting with community stakeholders and partnering with the CES team on the sales and logistics behind all of our programming. This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll book programming, cultivate community partnerships, and guide and support the sales team.

Primary Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Lead a high-functioning CES team that upholds our highest standards of hospitality and customer service. Coach and mentor staff so hospitality standards and sales goals are consistently met.

  • Lead the Accessible Discovery Program, Family STEAM Night, and other strategic partnerships — maintaining and expanding program services and community partner relationships.

  • Lead the delivery of the TPS STEAM Center and contract deliverables alongside the Education Manager.

  • Together with the Education Manager and the Guest Engagement Manager, bring the organization’s vision to “create joyful curiosity” to life and deliver an exceptional guest experience across every program and service.

Primary Sales Responsibilities:
  • Own the team’s sales goals — tracking progress and reporting results every month.

  • Use data to set goals, then build and manage the annual budget.

  • Process phone and email reservations for clients booking venue rentals and education programming, maximizing the use of Discovery Lab resources.

  • Keep the sales team sharp on active and passive sales strategies while delivering world-class hospitality to every client.

  • Partner with the development and marketing teams to maximize mission-driven impact.

  • Grow earned revenue year over year, partnering with the education, guest engagement, and development teams to innovate on sales strategies and educational offerings.

  • Champion Discovery Lab’s activities, events, and attractions to community stakeholders.

  • Support grant writing and management.

Primary Management Responsibilities:
  • Support and manage the staff who carry out community engagement, venue rental, and program sales.

  • Lead the team so all front-end logistics are planned and handled before programming begins, setting up the education and guest engagement teams for great guest interactions.

  • Hire and train CES staff as needed, and conduct annual performance reviews.

  • Collaborate actively across teams and serve on cross-functional committees.

All positions at Discovery Lab are required to assist with front-line operations as needed and may be assigned other duties as applicable by their direct supervisor. This position description is representative of the major position requirements and is not intended to be all-inclusive.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience developing and executing a sales strategy.

  • Experience developing and managing budgets.

  • Effective people management skills.

  • Professional communication skills.

  • Ability to interface well with fellow staff, participants, and partners in professional, educational settings.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills as appropriate to the position.

  • Ability to effectively work independently in completing assigned project tasks and to collaborate with teams on multiple, simultaneous, diverse tasks. Includes ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Whom you’ll support:
  • Venue & Sales Coordinator

  • Education Program Sales & Communications Coordinator

  • All Discovery Lab staff are encouraged to enhance team spirit and support throughout the organization.
