Overview

Avenues to Independence empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live the lives they choose through personalized support, advocacy and community engagement. We envision a future where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are integral contributors to their communities and live with dignity and independence.

The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for executing strategies and communications that foster relationships, enhance collaboration, and build awareness among Avenues’ donors, volunteers, and the community at large.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with the VP of Development and consulting partnerships, implement community engagement strategies that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Leverage data to inform outreach efforts and measure the effectiveness of community engagement activities, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate activities that support the volunteer engagement strategy with emphasis to recruit and retain volunteers.
  • Create and maintain a volunteer database to track volunteer hours, skills, and contributions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate volunteer training sessions and orientation programs.
  • Organize volunteer appreciation events and recognition programs to celebrate volunteer contributions.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to identify volunteer opportunities that align with organizational needs.
  • Evaluate and assess volunteer programs to identify areas for improvement and growth.
  • Monitor and report on volunteer program metrics to ensure effectiveness and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Attend special events to manage photography and public relations concerns.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and assist the Director of Development with coordinating fundraising events.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining social media content and provide support with social media management.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Development to identify potential new donors and volunteer leaders.
  • Work within the database to track donor and volunteer activity.
  • Write, edit, photograph, and produce videos; coordinate designs and printing of information brochures, newsletters, and other materials to support program and fundraising projects.
  • Collaborate with consulting partners, printers, photographers, and graphic artists when outside expertise is needed.
  • Participate in Board and staff meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to various audiences.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Be detail-oriented, adaptable, and a self-starter with strong time management abilities.
  • Manage multiple projects and use various social media platforms to enhance community outreach efforts.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar design software.
  • Strong command of English grammar with demonstrated editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills among diverse constituent groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Existing knowledge of the local community and philanthropic landscape is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is commonly required. Majors such as Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, or Development are preferred.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position (40-hour minimum), and hours of work and days are the scheduled hours as set in your offer letter. Some evenings and weekends may be required. This position is on-site with some flexibility for remote work.
