Job summary

CALSTART is seeking an internship to support the Local Travel Network Outreach Plan in the South Bay area. You will assist with developing outreach materials, coordinating events, and gathering community input to inform mobility equity initiatives.

The role requires strong organizational skills, independent work, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. This is a hands-on internship with opportunities to collaborate across teams.

Qualifications

  • Undergrad or grad student focusing on urban or transportation planning or related field.
  • Completed at least three years of college coursework.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work remotely.
  • Proven ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing the Local Travel Network Outreach Plan, including attending events in person.
  • Draft outreach materials such as flyers, presentations, and feedback tools.
  • Support logistics for public events, pop-ups and engagement activities.
  • Compile community input and survey data into summary reports.
  • Track outreach activities in a centralized system.
  • Develop a summary presentation or visual product highlighting outreach findings.
  • Provide general planning support for mobility equity initiatives.
  • Assist with additional Clean Mobility Options duties as needed.

Intern Project:

They will assist in the execution of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments Local Travel Network Outreach Plan (including attending in person outreach events). This includes developing outreach materials, run of show, organizing logistics for upcoming engagement activities, including a ride -n-drive event. In addition, they will support with Clean Mobility Options program administrative work, including organizing off-site(s).

Intern Project Key Deliverables:

  • Assist in the execution of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments Local Travel Network Outreach Plan (including attending in person outreach events).
  • Draft outreach materials, including content for flyers, presentations, and community feedback tools.
  • Support coordination and logistics for public events, pop-ups, and engagement activities.
  • Compile and synthesize community input and survey data into summary reports.
  • Track outreach activities and stakeholder engagement in a centralized system.
  • Develop a summary presentation or visual product capturing key outreach findings and highlights.
  • Provide general planning support for related mobility equity initiatives.
  • Support the team with additional Clean Mobility Options duties and/or responsibilities, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a focus in urban planning, transportation planning, environmental planning, public policy, community/regional planning or related field
  • Completed at least three years of accredited college/university level coursework.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and task management abilities.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced remote work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in internal and external teams with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Interest in equitable transportation solutions and public engagement
  • Experience with local government, mobility, or public outreach efforts
  • Familiarity with Southern California communities and demographics a plus
  • Enthusiasm for working on real-world projects that influence public mobility policy

$19 - $21 an hour
