Job Summary: Protective Life Foundation processes hundreds of grant requests, typically awarding $4.5 million in nonprofit support in a calendar year. The Foundation also has an active program to engage Protective Life teammates in the community, and participates in or leads numerous civic, economic, innovation, health & human service, arts & culture, and education initiatives in the communities in which our employees work and live. In the Birmingham, Alabama area the Foundation is deeply involved in support and revitalization activity in the neighborhoods adjacent to Protective Stadium. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $90 million in grants to nonprofits.


Responsibilities:
  • Executes specific tasks within foundation projects, including convening, drafting communications, and meeting agendas, facilitating, measuring, and reporting regularly to the Foundation stakeholders.
  • Support grant-making workflow, processing, record keeping and payments.
  • Project management over several external projects, including coordination with Marketing and Communication for internal and public messaging.
  • Communication and relationship management with City of Birmingham representatives and neighborhood leadership near Protective Stadium - directly or in coordination with partners.
  • Attend working committee groups with various community partners and report out to appropriate Foundation stakeholders.
  • Assist with the annual Protective United Way campaign and Week of Service for Protective teammates.
  • Manage activities which create interaction of Protective teammates with faculty and students at two Birmingham elementary schools near Protective Stadium.
  • Assistance with office management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education:
  • Experience: 1-2 years of community relations/development experience is preferred
  • Microsoft suite, project management, good communicator, strong writing skills, highly organized, detail oriented, works independently as well as in team setting. Self-motivated, able to prioritize and execute independently.
  • Previous involvement in nonprofit work and/or community projects.
  • College degree preferred.

$51,000 - $67,000 a year
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $51,500 to $67,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
