Job summary

City of Indianapolis is seeking police officers to patrol designated areas, both in vehicles and on foot, maintaining high visibility to deter crime and provide assistance to residents and businesses. The role includes regular checks of local businesses, responding to suspicious activity, and coordinating with Communications during emergencies.

Officers prepare incident reports, interview victims and witnesses, and participate in investigations and court proceedings.

Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen and at least 21 years old.
• Must not have reached 40 years old by date of appointment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license from the resident state.
• Residence restrictions per Indiana/Purdue accord referenced (see IC 36-8-4-2).
• Must pass a mandatory drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area in vehicle and on foot; maintains high patrol visibility to deter crime and assist residents and businesses.
• Regularly checks local businesses and residential areas and responds to suspicious activities or needs for service.
• Receives emergency and non-emergency radio runs; responds with siren and/or lights as needed and coordinates with Communications.
• Prepares and files incident reports and other required documentation; maintains detailed personal activity notes and case files.
• Interviews victims and witnesses, gathers facts, and participates in investigations and apprehensions when necessary.
• Testifies in court and assists in legal proceedings; participates in training and roll calls to plan patrol duties and stay compliant.
