This recruitment has been reopened to broaden the applicant pool and may be used to fill future permanent vacancies.

Our agency is hiring a full-time, non-permanent Community Corrections Officer 3 within the Reentry Division, based at Reynolds Reentry Center in Seattle, WA. The working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

*Employees assigned to a permanent duty station in King County will receive a 5% premium pay calculated from their base salary.

*Our agency offers a free ORCA card to all employees whose permanent duty station is in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

The Mission of the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is to improve public safety by positively changing lives.

The Community Corrections Officer 3, working with internal and external stakeholders, contributes to this mission by supporting the effective supervision and accountability of reentry center residents, helping them transition successfully into the community.

This role involves arrest authority, and staff not covered under legacy provisions for arming are required to be armed and able to carry a department-issued firearm.

Responsibilities include supervision of adults at a Reentry Center, including:
  • Reviewing resident information and needs
  • Conducting PREA screening within 72 hours
  • Completing intake and assessments
  • Making decisions on resident obligations and referrals
  • Maintaining resident files
  • Reviewing and updating resident plans
  • Conducting searches and collateral contacts
Engagement with residents involves:
  • Using communication strategies like Motivational Interviewing
  • Applying principles of effective interventions
  • Making referrals and supporting resident change
Enforcing supervision and law:
  • Armed staff must follow protocols for firearm handling
  • Documenting and testifying on violations
  • Transporting residents and collecting evidence
  • Issuing warrants and making arrests

Additional duties include attending training, acting as a center manager designee, and other assigned tasks.

Qualifications:
  • Two years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer in Washington State OR
  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years’ related experience OR
  • Equivalent experience and education totaling seven years

A master’s degree can substitute for five years of experience; an associate’s degree for two years.

Staff must be willing and able to carry a firearm, maintain qualifications, and complete ongoing training.
