Job summary

The City of Jersey Village is seeking a Communications Specialist to shape how we share stories with residents, businesses and the public. You will oversee city-wide communication initiatives, manage the website and social channels, and craft press materials to support public engagement.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree in communications and at least two years' experience in public sector communications, with strong writing, design, and digital skills to drive proactive outreach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in communications, preferably with a local government or public sector.
• Proficiency in social media at scale and strong writing/editing skills.
• Graphic design and videography skills.
• Knowledge of public relations, marketing, and community outreach principles.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Familiarity with digital tools and website content systems.
• Basic understanding of AI-powered tools and their workflow implications.

Responsibilities

• Manage city-wide communication initiatives, including public safety messaging.
• Oversee and update the City's website, social media channels, newsletters, and outreach.
• Write and design press releases, brochures, ads, and community magazine articles.
• Create compelling social media content.
• Serve as liaison between departments, residents, the City Council, and media.
• Coordinate community outreach events and marketing campaigns.
• Provide input on communication strategies and improvements.
• Inspire staff to engage in proactive communications.
