Job summary

Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse seeks a Community Coalition Coordinator to mobilize resources and implement SAMHSA SPF steps for prevention among youth and adults.

You will develop CCPs, coordinate meetings, and build partnerships with area resources, while ensuring timely reporting and evaluating program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in health planning or a related field.
• Must have or obtain an APS designation within the timeframe set by the funding agency.

Responsibilities

• Implement SAMHSA’s SPF five-step plan (Assessment, Capacity Building, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation).
• Develop and build Community Coalition Partnerships (CCP).
• Coordinate and facilitate coalition activities.
• Develop environmental and social media marketing strategies for prevention messages.

Job Purpose

To mobilize the community to implement evidence-based environmental strategies with the primary focus of changing policies and influencing social norms related to substance use and misuse among adolescents (grades K-12), young adults (ages 18-25) and adults (ages 25 and up). Develop, implement, and maintain a community coalition designed to address the State’s four prevention priorities: underage alcohol use, vape products, tobacco and nicotine products, marijuana and other cannabinoids, and prescription drugs.

Job Description

• Implement SAMHSA’s five-step Strategic Prevention Plan (SPF) which includes Assessment, Capacity Building, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. Cultural Competency and Sustainability are guiding principles utilized throughout the process.
• Implement a community and school-based needs assessment that will accurately assist in identifying key issues confronting adults and adolescents.
• Develop and build the Community Coalition Partnerships (CCP) as defined by the funding agency.
• Work closely with area resources and service providers including the PRC 7 Coordinators.
• Coordinate and facilitate existing or new coalition activities.
• Develop and implement projects that change physical environment, build community resilience, or improve systemic processes to enhance behavioral health and wellness.
• Compile county and community–specific data and report data to coalition members, PRC 7, and funding agency.
• Search for and develop environmental strategies as well as funding opportunities for the CCP.
• Conduct regular monthly meetings for the Coalition.
• Develop environmental and social media marketing strategies appropriate to the target population with prevention messages focused on the State’s three target areas.
• Complete all documentation and reports in a timely manner for submission to the Coalition, the Program Director, the Executive Director, and the funding agency, as required.
• Set-up and close down coalition events, including meetings and activities.
• Coordinate with other community organizations and the local PRC as frequently as possible.
• Respond to all communication from both internal and external sources in a timely manner.
• Participate in agency wide activities as needed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the organization in furthering its mission.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Community Coalition Partnerships Director or Executive Director.
• Conduct marketing and educational presentations to campus organizations and community organizations.
• Meet all funding agency Measures and required elements in the Statement of Work.

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in health planning or a related field. Must have or obtain an Associate Prevention Specialist (APS) designation within the timeframe established by the funding agency beginning with the start date of employment or the start date of the program

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must have experience in data collection and interpretation.
• Must have the ability to prepare and submit reports in a timely manner.
• Must have the ability to work in a non-structured environment.
• Must enjoy working with the media (press, TV and radio) and speaking in public.
• Must have excellent planning, development, organizational and record keeping skills.
• Must work well and relate well to diverse individuals and groups, both youth and adults throughout the community.
• Must have the ability to establish rapport with community.
• Must have an extensive knowledge of community resources.
• Knowledge of Public Service Announcement (PSA) development preferred.
• Must be skilled in record keeping.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish/English preferred, but not required.
• Must be computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must be able to prepare a budget.
• Must be able to develop and present materials to community leaders and members.
• Must be able to work late nights and some weekends.
• Must be able to design and develop promotional materials.

Other Requirements

• Must complete all training, including certifications as required by funding agency.
• Must have strong public speaking skills.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Must have a current driver’s license, auto insurance, reliable transportation and a phone.
• Must have a positive attitude and flexibility.
