Job summary

AbilityFirst seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for the East Los Angeles Center to support daily activities and community engagement. The role offers full-time, part-time, and per diem options with varied schedules, including some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities include supervision, documentation, personal care support, and arranging inclusive activities, with ongoing training opportunities. Background checks, immunizations, and driving record requirements apply.

Qualifications

• A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
• 12 ECE (Early Childhood Education) college units in any related field may be required for childcare programs.
• 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Must be able to provide physical assistance including lifting or transferring participants is required.
• Willingness to participate in swimming and community activities to assist participants is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills is required.
• Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and pass background checks is required.

Responsibilities

• Actively supervise participants; ensure health, safety, and engagement.
• Follow designated staffing ratios and implement daily activities.
• Document participant goal progress and report concerns promptly.
• Support participants with personal care and community activities.
• Coordinate with team to develop monthly activity calendars and participate in trainings.
