Job summary

The Salvation Army seeks a part-time Recreation Attendant for the Daytona Beach area to manage the community center, schedule activities, supervise participants, and lead recreational programs.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of experience with children, with a focus on safety and strong interpersonal skills in a busy community setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Six months’ experience working with children, OR
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Opens/closes the Community Center per hours and secures facility.
• Prepares and maintains a schedule of center activities.
• Supervises patrons and programs, enforces center rules.
• Leads recreational activities and promotes sportsmanship.
• Assists in cleaning and maintaining facilities and grounds.
• Reports injuries and completes incident reports.

Key Responsibilities:

• Opens/closes the Community Center in compliance with established operating hours; ensures the center is properly secured during non-operating hours.
• Prepares and maintains a schedule of Community Center activities in an accurate and timely manner.
• Supervises patrons visiting the Community Center and participating in programs; ensures that patron's behavior remains consistent with center rules and regulations, reports any issues immediately to supervisor.
• Supervises recreational activities throughout the Community Center; leads and motivates players to exhibit good sportsmanship.
• Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Community Center facilities and grounds.
• Reports any injuries to the supervisory immediately and instructs the injured party to complete an incident report.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages.
• Ability to lead and motivate people participating in recreational activities.
• Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis; ability to move heavier equipment on an occasional basis (up to 50 lbs.
• Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
• Work is performed in a indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License Required with ability to meet Salvation Army driving requirements for insurance purposes and remain qualified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle throughout the course of employment in this position.
