As the Community Center Manager for an affordable housing property, you will play a central role in creating a thriving, connected, and supportive community for residents. This position focuses on developing meaningful initiatives, providing access to critical services, and ensuring residents feel empowered and supported in their housing journey.
As the Community Center Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by cultivating partnerships, enhancing outreach efforts, and driving results through innovative programming. Reporting to the Community Manager of the Marshall Field Garden, you’ll be at the forefront of driving meaningful change in residents’ lives. Whether working alongside residents, community organizations, or property management teams, your leadership will be instrumental in promoting housing stability, workforce development, education, and overall well-being.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead coordination of resident support and resources on housing stabilization concerns, including but not limited to late rent payments, housekeeping, and VAWA.
- Oversees the Resident Services Coordinator, providing guidance, support, and supervision to ensure the effective delivery of resident programs and services.
- Create effective outreach and communication methods with residents, including data collection through resident questionnaires, community activities, door knocking, and a resident engagement calendar in partnership with the Director of Marketing and Director of Resident Services.
- Serve as a resource for residents and staff by building a comprehensive understanding of available community services and referrals, including behavioral and mental health support, preventative health screenings, and public entitlement programs.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and performance reporting requirements while developing and monitoring measurable outcomes for Resident Services programs.
- Build and nurture relationships with resident associations, local government officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support community development efforts.
- Collaborate with Property Operations and the Director of Resident Services to develop program budgets and balance property-specific social service needs with operational resources to ensure impactful and sustainable programs.
- Monitor resident satisfaction and make recommendations for improvements to enhance the quality of life.
- Provide weekly and monthly reporting on resident activity and services.
- Maintain a visual calendar of events and services for residents and staff via Loft (Active Building).
- Coordinate resources that address key community outcomes, including education, health and wellness, workforce development, and housing stability.
- Develop youth engagement programs, utilizing common spaces for activities.
- Assist the Director of Resident Services in developing effective outreach and community activities, including recruiting residents for community programs and initiatives such as playground builds.
- Staff the Community Center as needed during scheduled program events, ensuring agency and contractor engagement with residents and provide operational support.
- Represent the organization at community forums, public meetings, and events as requested.
QualificationsAnticipated salary range:
$60,000 – $70,000 USD per year
This range is provided as a general guideline and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary depending on a variety of factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, geographical location, and the specific responsibilities of the role. In addition to salary, this position may be eligible for performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Final compensation offers will be determined following a thorough assessment of the candidate’s background and the requirements of the position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in property management, social services, behavioral health support, and/or public assistance programs.
- Strong understanding of affordable housing policies, resident rights (e.g., VAWA, fair housing laws), and community resource navigation.
- Experience with property management software (e.g., Loft/Active Building) is a plus.
- A bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, urban planning, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
- Excellent communication and outreach skills, including event planning, resident engagement, and survey development.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing community needs.
- Strong leadership skills. Willingness to hold team accountable and foster collaboration across departments.
