Job description

Job Summary

Building Staff are responsible for assisting the Building Director with community center set-up, cleaning protocols, and administrative duties.

Position Summary
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual.
  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Have a working knowledge of community center policies, procedures, programs, and services.
  • Communicate daily with participants/patrons and staff.
  • Assist other building staff with monitoring the facility.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the assigned area.
  • Assist with program registrations as needed.
  • Set up and break down program areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Required

Works under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Building Director at his/her assigned community center.

Job Requirements
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs continuously.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in an office setting.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Effective communication with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to guide participants to designated program areas.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Working Environment

This environment involves walking, climbing, standing for long periods, and exposure to loud noises in gym or similar settings. Staff will supervise groups of children and adults and assist in accommodating individuals with disabilities within training parameters.
