JOB SUMMARY

The Activity Coordinator is responsible for planning, setting up, and overseeing activities and events at the Community Center.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for assisting with the operations of the Community Center, including all resources (i.e. facility, gym, events and classes) during assigned shift.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the building, equipment and machines are working during assigned shift.
  • At the beginning and end of the shift, inspect the entire facility and operations for safety hazards, cleanliness and potential problems.
  • This is a hands on position, attendance at work is an essential job function.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones and helping set-up for events or activities, etc.
  • Follows administrative and program policies and procedures within assigned areas.
  • Performs other job-related tasks and special assignments as required by the Supervisor.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the building for all events scheduled at the Community Center and inspect after events for proper clean up by user.
  • Regularly circulates through all areas of the community center monitoring staffing levels and observing employees during the performance of their duties to ensure a high level of competency and performance. Coordinates employee rotations and breaks, manages call-out or no shows by calling in non-scheduled employees as necessary.
  • Represent the organization in a positive manner.
  • Maintains professional dress standards and personal appearance as dictated by the policy manual.
  • Meets attendance guidelines by reporting to work as scheduled with dependability and consistency.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Required:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • One (1) year experience in coordinating group activities.
    • A valid First Aid/CPR Card or ability to obtain certification within 30 days after beginning employment.
    • Candidate must have a valid driver's license and be eligible for the Tribe's automobile insurance.
    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    Skilled in: Supervisory techniques and practices to include managing, scheduling, assigning, coordinating, and monitoring work of others; motivational techniques; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; listening effectively; observing reactions/interactions of others; problem-solving; conflict resolution; evaluating options and implementing solutions; using a computer and standard office equipment. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required.

    Knowledge of: Mathematics; the English language including composition and grammar; methods of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; laws and government regulations; human behavior and performance; learning and motivation; Native American culture and history; drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

    Ability to: Maintain confidentiality; maintain a positive attitude and work ethic; effectively communicate information and ideas, both written and verbal; comprehend information, both written and verbal; form culturally competent, non-judgmental, supportive and empowering relationships with youth; gather and interpret data, reach logical conclusions, and present findings and recommendations; use independent judgment. Must be able to work in a team environment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, balance, bend at the waist, crouch, kneel, twist, use foot controls, and operate a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently lift carry and/or push/pull up to twenty pounds (20 lbs.). The employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to grasp, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud. Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally may sit to perform administrative tasks.
