MATS invites a Community Manager to nurture a safe, supportive environment for AI safety fellows. You will build relationships, identify needs, and implement programs that promote individual wellbeing and a thriving community.

You will collaborate with the team to enhance welfare, foster connections with aligned organizations, and manage events, orientations, and ongoing engagement. Berkeley-based, in-person role with a focus on ethos, ethics, and impact.

Competenze

• 2-5 years experience across community building, people management, counselling, coaching or mentoring.
• Autonomy and proactivity.
• Strong interpersonal skills (patience, active listening, empathy).
• Comfortable working with private and confidential information.
• Experience providing emotional support and mediating conflicts.
• Able to practice good judgement in urgent and/or high-stakes situations, if necessary.
• Project management in community-building contexts (events).
• Mission alignment: interest in beneficial AI outcomes.

Mansioni

• Build meaningful relationships with fellows through one-on-one meetings to learn their needs and create a plan for their flourishing.
• Execute on our community strategy.
• Coordinate with the Community Lead about fellow needs.
• Collaborate with Research Management and Operations to support fellows.
• Support fellow orientation and offboarding.
• Organize and supervise socials, networking events, and workshops (evening/weekend).
• Address concerns and connect fellows with resources.
