Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced outreach and organizing professional in New York to recruit members, expand chapters, and drive local campaigns aligned with statewide priorities.

You will conduct 1:1s, phone and text banking, canvassing, tabling, and events; train volunteers; manage data; and craft recruitment materials. Travel and evening/weekend work required; Spanish language skills preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of organizing experience, with at least 2 years in a paid role.
  • At least 1 year planning basebuilding tactics (phone banking, canvassing, tabling, workshops).
  • At least 1 year experience with issue campaign tactics (events, lobby meetings).
  • Willingness to learn the organization’s training methodology.
  • Commitment to tracking progress through organizational data systems.
  • Familiarity with Google Drive and Zoom, willingness to learn outreach tools.
  • Cultural competency and ability to connect with diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexibility with work planning, evenings and weekends; travel as needed.
  • Fluent Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit organizational members and expand membership through outreach campaigns.
  • Develop and implement local campaigns connected to priorities.
  • Create outreach plans for meetings, mobilization, and campaign tactics.
  • Conduct 1:1s, phone banking, text banking, tabling, and canvassing.
  • Lead outreach events with members and engage impacted individuals.
  • Train volunteers in strategy development, event planning, media interaction, storytelling, and leadership.
  • Support leaders in developing organizing skills for social change.
  • Manage data including 1:1s, activities, turnout, and volunteer profiles.
  • Create recruitment scripts, phone banks, canvass lists, and materials.
  • Create campaign outreach strategies based on officials’ profiles.
  • Identify and execute local campaigns tied to statewide/federal efforts.
  • Recruit members and leaders for leadership structures and identify candidates.
  • Create content and collect stories for emails, social media, letters to the editor, op-eds.

Job description


  • Recruit organizational members and expand membership through issue-based and electoral campaign outreach

  • Develop and implement local strategic campaigns connected to statewide priorities

  • Create outreach and recruitment plans for chapter meetings, committee meetings, mobilization efforts, and campaign tactics

  • Conduct 1:1s, phone banking, text banking, tabling, and door canvassing

  • Lead outreach events with members and engage directly impacted individuals

  • Train volunteers and members in strategy development, event planning, media interaction, storytelling, and leadership skills

  • Support community leaders in developing organizing skills for social change

  • Manage organizational data, including 1:1s, volunteer activities, turnout, and volunteer profiles

  • Create recruitment phone banks, canvass lists, outreach scripts, and recruitment materials

  • Create legislative campaign outreach strategies based on elected officials’ political profiles

  • Identify, plan, and execute local campaigns connected to statewide and federal issue campaigns

  • Recruit members and leaders for organizational leadership structures and identify potential political candidates

  • Create content and collect stories for emails, social media, letters to the editor, op-eds, and other communications tactics

  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor


Requirements


  • Minimum of 3 years of organizing experience, with at least 2 of the 3 years in a paid, professional role

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience planning and utilizing basebuilding tactics such as phone banking, door canvassing, tabling, and facilitation of workshops and meetings

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience planning and utilizing issue campaign tactics such as event planning and lobby meetings

  • Willingness to learn and effectively use the organization’s training methodology

  • Commitment to track basebuilding and outreach progress through organizational data systems

  • Familiarity with Google Drive and Zoom

  • Ability and willingness to learn outreach tools

  • Cultural competency and ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Flexibility with work planning and priority setting

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

  • Ability to travel for work commitments

  • Fluent Spanish preferred
