Job summary

Central City Concern is seeking a Community Building Assistant in Portland to maintain a clean, safe living environment and support residents as part of our property management and supportive housing team.

The role includes building upkeep, reporting resident issues, coordinating with building staff, and helping sustain a cohesive community. Shifts are weekend overnight at Starlight and Medford locations with competitive hourly pay and union benefits.

Qualifications

The Community Building Assistant performs routine building cleaning, upkeep and monitoring of building activities and is an integral member of the property management and supportive housing team. This person is responsible for the upkeep of buildings, identifying and reporting resident issues, and maintaining the cohesion and livability of the community. Other key responsibilities are to provide assistance to residents, to effectively coordinate with other building staff, and to identify issues and opportunities in the community.

A successful applicant for the Central City Concern Community Building Assistant position should demonstrate reliability and a strong sense of personal duty, taking pride in their work. They must possess a solid understanding of policies and processes, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines. This role requires individuals who are committed to maintaining a clean environment and are motivated to contribute positively to the community.

Program: (two locations)

The Starlight opened December 2022, combining deeply affordable housing with commercial space, located in the heart of Old Town Portland. The building offers a mix of studio and single room occupancy homes. Seventy Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units are restricted to extremely low-income households and have project-based Section 8 rent subsidy attached. The remaining 28 studios and 2 SRO units are rent restricted units with no rental subsidy attached, available to very low and extremely low-income households.

The Medford Hotel is a three-story historic alcohol- and drug-free community located in the Old Town neighborhood of downtown Portland. The building consists of 61 single-room occupancy units. Tenants are referred to CCC through the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice.

Schedule:

Saturday - Sunday, 11:00pm - 7:30am at the Medford, Monday - Tuesday, 11:00pm - 7:30am (Thursdays and Fridays off).

Compensation: $22.05/hr - $29.25/hr, Final comp will be determined based on relevant experience, education, credentials/licensure, and internal equity. External candidates: Offer max $25.58/hr per our Union contract.

Graveyard Shift Differential:

Employees earn an additional $1.75 per hour for hours worked between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM. To qualify, the majority of the scheduled shift must fall within these overnight hours. The differential applies only to time worked during the eligible graveyard shift period. Not paid time off.
