Overview

Transportation systems are increasingly reliant on intelligent systems to drive safety, efficiency, and reliability for commuters and residents alike. As a lead systems integrator for large-scale train control and smart traffic management systems, M.C. Dean works with transportation owners’ operators and engineers to provide outcome-based solutions and provide full lifecycle services from design to installation to ensure effective turnover and long-term sustainment. We leverage prefabrication and modular manufacturing techniques, as well as offsite pre-commissioning and testing to streamline delivery, reduce impacts to active infrastructure, and alleviate schedule and cost risks.

Job Overview

A Telecom Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders. This includes assigning tasks, ensuring high-quality installation, and performing quality inspections. The technician monitors task completion, compliance, and safety, overseeing a crew of five or more technicians and apprentices. The role requires experience installing equipment using hand and power tools, understanding Telecom Systems, blueprints, and codes. Candidates should aim to become qualified BICSI Technicians. Telecom technicians are full-time employees with benefits.

Job Requirements
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Adherence to safety policies and procedures
  • Participation in daily safety and work briefings
  • Installation of various low voltage cables
  • Inspection, termination, testing, troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Cat 5/6/6A)
  • Knowledge of pathways, cable tray, cabinets, racks, telecommunications devices, grounding systems
  • Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure
  • Sketching rack, floor, and wall elevations
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure project quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Install and connect fiber uplinks into telecommunications cabinets/racks
  • Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing, and raceways layouts
  • Produce 4-week look-ahead plans for productivity and material tracking
  • Train and supervise apprentices in cable installation from TR to WAO
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings and perform quality checks
  • Maintain a clean work area and secure tools daily
  • Travel up to 25%, domestic and international
Qualifications / Skills Sets / Expectations
  • 6+ years experience in commercial communications
  • At least 18 years old
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Good safety record, valid driver’s license, clean driving record
  • Pass background check and drug test
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test
  • Ability to read plans and specifications
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Punctuality and teamwork
  • Wear long pants and shirts covering shoulders
  • Provide basic tools prior to employment
Physical Abilities
  • Lift at least 100 pounds, 60 pounds for extended periods
  • Relocate a 12-foot ladder without assistance
  • Work at heights, climb scaffolds, lifts, ladders
  • Perform physical activities routinely (walking, climbing, lifting, etc.)
  • Good vision, color distinction, and communication skills
  • Use ladders and tools safely
  • Close-range vision, auditory and verbal communication
  • Recognize issues and apply rules to solve problems
