PURPOSE: The Telecommunications Technician 2 is responsible for planning, layout, and installation of new and retrofit commercial communications equipment and systems, adhering to all plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Extensive experience with installation, termination, and testing of Structured Cable Plant in commercial environments is required. Experience with hospital or airport installations is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Installation of video and data cables (Cat 5E, Cat 6, fiber).
  • Terminating and testing copper (Cat 5, Cat 6) and fiber cables.
  • Installation of patch panels, backbone, and riser cables.
  • Reading and understanding plans and specifications.
  • Installation of racks, cable trays, conduit, and grounding systems.
  • Mentoring apprentices and assisting in outside plant (OSP) installations.
  • Pulling cables, installing assemblies, and participating in site cleanup and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of fiber termination connectors and all makes of fiber optic cables.
  • Providing own hand tools; training and supervising apprentices; maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office.

Abilities required:

  • Physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights up to 60 feet, climb ladders, and perform various physical tasks.
  • Good vision, color perception, and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to recognize problems, apply rules, and analyze information.
