Responsibilities

• The Communications Technician is responsible for the planning, layout and complete installation of new and retrofit communications equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards for a particular project. This includes conducting site surveys, pulling cable, terminating and testing both copper and fiber optic cable to the highest level of specifications as well as installing ancillary communications systems.
• Install Category-rated copper and fiber optic cables, terminate and test horizontal copper cabling, terminate fiber optic cable via anaerobic, mechanical and fusion splicing, and terminate and splice copper riser cable.
• Install panels, enclosures and electronics; label communications systems including cable, panels and electronics.
• Install interior conduit and surface mount raceway systems; read and understand plans and specifications; install plywood, racks, cabinets and cable trays within communications rooms.
• Mentor apprentices and assist in OSP (outside plant) installations; pull cable (100 pair or smaller) unassisted; install prefab assemblies unassisted; participate in job site cleanup and maintain a clean work area.
• Install ENT conduit, surface mount raceways, wall and floor sleeves; install pull and junction boxes up to 24" x 24"; troubleshoot and fix communications cable issues.
• Train and supervise apprentices in a team environment with a focus on safety, quality, production and schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of experience
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
• Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications
• Must have a valid driver\'s license to operate equipment (for which you will be trained)

Desired Skills

• Candidates must be willing to work in different countries for up to 6 months out of the year and travel within the United States as well
• Prior experience in communications work including room build-out, Cat6, Cat6A and fiber optic termination; interpret and maintain drawings and as-builts
• Test, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber optic cabling
• Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office Word and Excel

Abilities

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; maintain physical strength and stamina for loading, unloading, operating equipment and transporting materials
• Work at various heights up to 60 feet; climb and balance on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts and catwalks
• Vision and hearing requirements; ability to understand English
• Ability to recognize potential problems and apply general rules to specific problems
