Communications Technician

Location: Shawano, WI

What we're seeking:

Major Responsibilities: Install, maintain, and repair network facilities and associated apparatuses from station equipment to line cards; perform related duties.

What you'll do:
  • Install, remove, rearrange, program, test, troubleshoot, and maintain voice, data, and ancillary equipment and network services.
  • Maintain and repair outside and inside plant equipment and inside wiring.
  • Restore service outages and perform cable pair recovery activities.
  • Interface with customers to analyze installation and repair issues, respond to inquiries, and provide follow-up.
  • Interpret schematic work order drawings to determine job specifications and installation needs; order and obtain required equipment.
  • Apply problem-solving skills as appropriate.
  • Use test equipment to analyze equipment troubles and perform maintenance actions.
  • Operate standard and aerial lift vehicles, as well as manual, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, electronic, gasoline, propane, and power tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the company.
  • Note: Candidates cannot exceed 275 pounds, including clothing and footwear, per company policy.

Required Background:
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and lift/carry tools and equipment.
  • Ability to climb poles/ladders and work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and alertness.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet DOT requirements.
  • Ability to interpret diagrams and operate test equipment.
  • Flexibility to work scheduled hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience in relevant technical roles is preferred.
  • Ability to perceive color differences and distinguish audible tones.
Training and Education:
  • Completion of an advanced electronics concepts course.
  • Degree in electronics technology preferred, including coursework in digital logic, electronic communications, and microprocessors.
