Co-founded by California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and Olivia Morgan, the California Partners Project is a bridge builder, amplifier, and trusted partner to all.

The Opportunity

As the California Partners Project prepares to launch several key campaigns, we are seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative Communications & Project Specialist to coordinate and execute communications, events, and program activities. In this role, you’ll lead outreach campaigns around new resources, publications, and program launches—ensuring smooth execution, strong stakeholder engagement, and clear, compelling messaging.

Who You Are

You are an experienced and well-rounded communications and program operations professional with the ability to coordinate seamlessly across teams, stakeholders, and priorities. You bring 3–5 years of experience in strategic communications, digital media, and public engagement—ideally within advocacy, non-profit, or public-sector environments. You have a track record of executing integrated campaigns and managing program logistics while writing with clarity and purpose for diverse audiences. You understand how communications, events, and operations work together to advance mission-driven initiatives.

You are proactive, detail-oriented, and excel at turning big-picture strategy into actionable plans. You’ve managed logistics for events, campaigns, and publications—keeping timelines on track, aligning teams, and ensuring strong execution. You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and are skilled at navigating ambiguity while remaining focused on goals and outcomes.

You are a strong communicator and collaborative partner who anticipates needs, follows through, and brings structure to complex projects. With excellent writing and editing skills, you confidently create content across formats—from social posts to press materials to briefing memos. You value clear, respectful communication and enjoy building trust-based relationships across teams and stakeholders.

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Lead communications planning and content execution for resource launches and digital campaigns promoting initiatives across program areas.
  • Create and publish digital content, including newsletters, social media copy, Canva graphics, and materials using branded templates.
  • Manage the editorial calendar, aligning content with key milestones, launches, and awareness moments (e.g., Mental Health Awareness Month, Equal Pay Day).
  • Track and analyze performance metrics to refine content and improve digital engagement.
  • Maintain and update web content in collaboration with program and operations teams.

Communications Coordination & Support

  • Draft press releases, partner toolkits, and other communication materials in coordination with staff and consultants.
  • Maintain and update media and partner contact lists, including journalists and influencers focused on tech, policy, gender, and mental health and well-being.
  • Support earned media efforts by coordinating with communications consultants and ensuring consistent messaging.
  • Prepare talking points and briefing materials for leadership and spokespeople.

Administrative & Stakeholder Support

  • Lead coordination of logistics and internal planning for project campaigns, research publications, and events.
  • Monitor and summarize relevant legislation to inform strategy and advocacy.
  • Manage program communications and updates to external stakeholders and coalition members, ensuring engagement and clarity (ex: the Inspired Internet Pledge cohort).
  • Serve as liaison to external vendors and consultants related to communications and event logistics.
  • Provide scheduling and administrative support for program deliverables and meetings.
