Job summary

City of Emporia, Virginia is seeking a Communications Officer to perform intermediate technical dispatch duties for police on assigned shifts, maintain records, enter data, and prepare reports. The role requires clear communication, accuracy, and calm handling of stressful public safety situations.

Applicants must graduate high school, be able to type, complete Basic Dispatch School, and obtain VCIN/NCIC certification if not already certified, plus pass background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Must be able to successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and a standardized test with a score of 70% or better.
