Job description

Job Type: Contract-to-hire

Location: Fully remote

Compensation Range: $75-85k DOE

Our nonprofit client is looking for acommunications managerto join their team. The manager will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that tell compelling stories, engage supporters, and drive fundraising—especially during their critical year-end giving campaign. This is a hands-on role for someone who can bothstrategize and execute,leading without direct reports, and taking ownership of communications from start to finish. You’ll collaborate closely with leadership and external creatives while owning the content calendar, writing, and outreach strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all communications efforts across email, social media, direct mail, newsletters, donor letters, event marketing, and video storytelling
  • Develop and manage the communications calendar aligned to KPIs and organizational goals
  • Write compelling and donor-centered stories, appeals, newsletters, and campaign content
  • Create and execute multi-channel fundraising campaigns, especially during the year-end push (Q3–Q4)
  • Build and execute a social media strategy, including weekly posts and growing audience engagement and reach
  • Coordinate with a contract designer and videographer to deliver visual and video assets for campaigns
  • Establish and manage a strong LinkedIn presence, tailored for donor and partner engagement
  • Manage donor communications by responding within 24 hours and creating thoughtful follow-ups via phone/email
  • Lead the storytelling for program impact pieces and integrate these across campaigns
  • Proactively drive communication initiatives forward with leadership, especially the Executive Director, ensuring content is delivered and approved on schedule

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in communications, marketing, or related roles—preferably in a nonprofit, mission-driven, or grassroots organization
  • Proven leadership in communications – ability to influence and push initiatives forward with confidence
  • Exceptional writing skills with a strong voice and emotional storytelling ability
  • Experience in non-profit communications highly preferred
  • Comfortable with grassroots-style work: creating strategy, writing content, and managing delivery channels
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and experienced in working with KPIs
  • Confident but collaborative, with the ability to guide stakeholders without requiring formal authority
  • Creative and proactive in offering new ideas once foundational systems are in place
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, social media tools, and basic design/video coordination
