Responsibilities

Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) seeks an energetic, strategic, and proactive Communications Director to lead the communications operation for Arizona’s Third Congressional District.

The Communications Director will manage a three-person communications team across Washington, D.C., and Arizona to develop and execute a strategic, creative, and proactive communications program on behalf of the Congresswoman. The ideal candidate is excellent at building strategic relationships with journalists and creatives, an exceptional writer and communicator, comfortable serving as an on-the-record spokesperson, and energized by a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Spanish-language proficiency is preferred, and campaign experience is a plus.

Grow Rep. Ansari’s Digital Presence

Congresswoman Ansari has a growing digital presence, and we are looking for a Communications Director who can take it to the next level. The ideal candidate is creative, digitally savvy, and experienced in developing strategies that grow audiences and drive meaningful engagement. They will develop innovative content across social media, email, SMS, and emerging platforms, while continually identifying new ways to expand the Congresswoman’s reach and connect with audiences online.

Connect with Constituents and Tell the Story of AZ-03

Arizona’s Third Congressional District is home to vibrant, diverse, and growing communities, and the Communications Director will play a central role in telling their stories while ensuring constituents know the work the Congresswoman is doing in Congress on their behalf. Working closely with the district team, they will identify compelling people, places, and issues to highlight and create creative opportunities for the Congresswoman to engage directly with constituents. The Communications director will execute a dynamic digital, press and paid communications plan that advances the Congresswoman’s agenda in the district.

Communicate Rep. Ansari’s Legislative Work

The Communications Director will work closely with the legislative team to turn the Congresswoman’s policy priorities and legislative work into compelling, accessible narratives. They will lead strategic press rollouts around key legislation, develop proactive communications plans to build momentum and generate coverage, and identify creative opportunities to elevate the Member’s priorities. The Communications Director will also work closely with other Members of Congress and legislative partners to highlight the coalitions the Congresswoman is building around her priorities and demonstrate broad support for her work. The ideal candidate will be skilled at translating complex policy into clear messaging that resonates with Arizonans, reporters, and national audiences, and will understand how to proactively shape the conversation around the Congresswoman’s legislative agenda.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Management

• Develop and execute a proactive communications strategy for the Member and office.
• Serve as a senior communications advisor to the Member and leadership team.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a three-person communications team across Washington, D.C., and Arizona.
• Partner across legislative, district, and scheduling teams to align messaging and identify communications opportunities.

Press & Narrative

• Lead day-to-day press operations and serve as the Member’s primary media liaison and on-the-record spokesperson.
• Build strong relationships with local, Arizona, and national reporters and proactively pursue coverage.
• Lead press rollouts around legislation, policy priorities, announcements, and major events.
• Work with the legislative team and congressional partners to shape narratives, build coalitions, and generate momentum around the Member’s priorities.
• Develop rapid-response strategies and proactively drive the conversation around breaking news and emerging issues.

National Digital Growth & Constituent Engagement

• Lead the strategy to grow the Congresswoman’s digital presence and engage new audiences.
• Oversee social media, email, SMS, OTT, digital advertising, and other paid and emerging platforms.
• Develop creative constituent communications, including mailers, digital campaigns, texts, and other direct-to-constituent outreach.
• Create innovative opportunities for direct constituent engagement, including digital town halls and virtual events.
• Partner with the district team to tell the story of AZ-03 and highlight the Member’s work in the community.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Significant experience developing and executing strategic communications programs in politics, government, advocacy, or campaigns.
• Proven success growing digital audiences and developing creative content and paid communications strategies.
• Strong relationships with local, state, and national press, with experience securing proactive coverage and leading press rollouts.
• Experience serving as an on-the-record spokesperson and advising senior leaders or elected officials on communications and messaging.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy into clear, compelling narratives.
• Strong political judgment, creativity, and the ability to proactively shape narratives and respond quickly under pressure.
• Experience managing staff and collaborating across legislative, district, and communications teams.
• Spanish-language proficiency preferred; campaign experience is a plus.
