Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) - LIRR seeks an Assistant Engineer - Communications (Design) in Queens to oversee planning, maintenance, testing, inspection, and project coordination for communications systems. This role requires coordinating field forces, safety programs, and documentation to ensure ISO 9001 compliance and continuous process improvements.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s in Engineering, possess strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience in communications/telecom/electronics/networking.
• Ability to direct field personnel in a union environment.
• Strong administrative, organizational, project management and leadership skills.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate all Communications-related activities including testing, inspection, and maintenance goals.
• Establish new standards and procedures for maintenance; monitor installation/construction; conduct design reviews.
• Prepare, manage and monitor section budget; manage staff resources and procurement.
• Interpret work rules; assist with grievances; provide documentation for claims and labor relations.
• Investigate and recommend new technologies; train staff on new technologies.
