Communications Coordinator – Full-Time Exempt (Remote – MN preferred)

Reports to: Communications Director

Who We Are

CEED is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. CEED conducts research and provides community education on important energy, environment, and community development issues so that all members of society may effectively participate in public decision-making. The mission of the Center for Earth, Energy, and Democracy (CEED) is to provide tools and information for communities and policymakers to create just climate and environmental policy. We enhance the capacity of the environmental justice movement through collaboration at local, regional, and national levels. For over a decade, our work has been in partnership with other justice-based organizations, state and regional government entities, professional networks, universities, and advocacy organizations.CEED advances environmental justice and energy democracy by providing frontline and climate justice organizations with education, policy research, and leadership development. We aim to build permanent movement infrastructure in communities on the front line of energy democracy and climate organizing from our home base in Minnesota to the Midwest and beyond. We do this work because we believe everyone deserves a society that equitably protects and promotes a healthy and vibrant environment for all people in current and future generations. Our work in Minnesota and the broader Midwest influences and is informed by our work to shift the national climate conversation on policy through our leadership role in the Equitable & Just National Climate Platform (EJNCP). Summary of Position

As a member of the CEED team, the Communications Coordinator will support the implementation of our communications strategy, with a primary focus on digital communications, including social media, email, and website updates. This role will be responsible for creating compelling digital content, managing our email list and newsletters, and providing general support to the communications department. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and creative skills, as well as a commitment to equity and environmental justice.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage and create content for current and emerging social media channels, including graphics and video content, such as short-form videos and occasional live content.
• Develop and implement email newsletters, ensuring clear, engaging content in collaboration with the Communications Team and other departments.
• Help implement our narrative strategy in collaboration with the Communications Team through compelling and creative digital storytelling.
• Assist with management of supporter data relating to digital communications within our CRM and/or mass email platform.
• Assist in the onboarding and adoption of new systems and tools for digital communications, such as CRMs or social media management platforms.
• Work with the Communications Team to grow and deepen our engagement with key audiences and our digital community of supporters.
• Provide social media support and coverage for events, launches and other key initiatives.
• Post updates to the organization’s website, such as blogs, resources and event announcements.
• Lead and assist with the creation of social media toolkits and messaging guides.
• Support content development and editing across various communications materials.
• Help ensure website content remains up-to date to best reflect our current work.
• Help track engagement and performance of digital communications through analytics reports.
• Support overall activities and work of CEED programs and our national coalition, including notetaking and other administrative tasks for communications-related activities.
• Provide general support to the Communications department as needed.

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in digital communications, social media management, or related fields.
• Strong writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity and engagement.
• Knowledge and experience creating mass emails using drag-and-drop email builders such as MailChimp.
• Demonstrated experience managing and creating content for social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Youtube and Bluesky, etc. with a solid understanding of best practices and audience engagement.
• Significant experience with digital design apps like Canva to create compelling and brand-aligned graphics and video content
• Knowledge of posting and editing content to WordPress or similar website content management system preferred.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range is $70,000 – $85,000, depending on experience. 100% employer paid medical, dental, vision, short – and long-term disability and life insurance policies. Employer-paid monthly contributions to a Health Savings Account. 10 holidays, 10 sick days, paid vacation time and other perks. The CEED Office is closed for one week in July and December as an organization-wide break. Flexible work schedule. 100% remote employment. Paid professional development and all work-related expenses paid and/or reimbursed.
