Join our Communications Bureau

Support our Communications & Board Services Bureau using your communications expertise. We are seeking a dedicated individual to assist the District’s Florida Water Star℠ (FWS) program manager on implementing the FWS program, which focuses on water conservation for both residential and commercial construction. This role involves close collaboration with a variety of program stakeholders, including FWS inspectors, builders and developers, irrigation and landscape contractors, turf industry professionals, realtors, and more. The successful candidate will be a strong writer and communicator, exhibit excellent customer service and pay great attention to detail. Technical expertise should include knowledge of water efficiency in appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems, and landscapes. Current knowledge is not required, and comprehensive training will be provided to ensure you have all the technical knowledge needed to excel in this position. You’ll have the chance to work with a wide range of teams in this promising position, each of which plays a vital role in our efforts to preserve our most valuable natural resources.

Starting Compensation:

Communications Professional 2 $43,347.20 - $55,231.65

Communications Professional 3 $46,737.30 - $63,590.24

The starting salary range for the Communications Professional position reflects the minimum to 50% of the compensation. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Help coordinate the District’s Florida Water Star℠ (FWS) program.
  • Plan and deliver presentations and educational trainings to program stakeholders.
  • Coordinate logistics for multiple trainings: open and close purchase orders for hired facilitators; secure the locations; promote via email lists; prepare, print and set up materials and A/V; and prepare and give PowerPoint presentations.
  • Conduct onsite FWS inspections and audits: complete a checklist, take photo documentation, obtain applicable drawings and spec sheets, ensure program criteria is met and submit to an online portal.
  • Address any program criteria not met with applicable stakeholder.
  • Review and approve FWS inspections in an online portal.
  • Review landscape/irrigation design plans and indoor specs for program criteria compliance and provide recommendations to builders prior to construction.
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with program stakeholders.
  • Respond to questions and inquiries from stakeholders.
  • Develop program materials such as marketing pieces and tip cards working with the District’s graphic artists and printing staff.
  • Suggest applicable content for the program’s social media channel(s).
  • Participate in committees and conferences applicable to the program.
  • Maintain Excel spreadsheets with program data.
  • Conduct general water conservation outreach activities to the public such as hosting a booth at public events and tradeshows or giving presentations.
  • Assist the Communications Section with special projects or additional duties as assigned.
  • Participate in District emergency management activities as needed.

Working Conditions

Employee works in a standard office environment but will spend time out in the field. Frequent travel usually during the workday is required. Performs continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 10 pounds. Occasionally requires bending and reaching above shoulder level. Possible travel to other offices. Employee may be subject to call-in outside of regularly scheduled work hours, or required to be on call, including on nights, weekends or holidays, to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.

Required Credentials For Communications Coordinator

Communications Coordinator 2

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in communications, public relations, marketing, environmental science, sustainability or related field and Two (2) years related work experience OR Associates degree (or higher) and Four (4) years related work experience
  • Willing to obtain the Florida Water Star Inspector and Accredited Professional trainings within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license

Communications Coordinator 3

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in communications, public relations, marketing, environmental science, sustainability or related field and Four (4) years related work experience OR Associates degree (or higher) and Six (6) years related work experience
  • Willing to obtain the Florida Water Star Inspector and Accredited Professional trainings within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license

Additional Details

The primary work location for this position is out of the Brooksville or Tampa, FL office. This Communications Professional 2 is eligible for overtime and the Communications Professional 3 is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
