Job Summary

The University of Connecticut College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) seeks a Communications Coordinator (Publicity/Marketing Coordinator) to help elevate the College’s visibility and impact through strategic storytelling, digital communications, and audience engagement.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Coordinator will develop compelling content across multiple platforms; identify and promote stories that showcase the College’s research, teaching, public engagement, and student success; and build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, and campus partners. The position also leads the College’s social media strategy, manages editorial publications, and supports communications initiatives that advance the College’s strategic priorities.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communications professional with excellent editorial judgment, exceptional organizational skills, natural curiosity, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across a large and diverse academic community.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful incumbent will:

  • Develop, write, and edit feature stories, news articles, announcements, social media content, marketing copy, and other editorial materials that promote the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its units.
  • Develop and manage an editorial pipeline by identifying, researching, and coordinating content opportunities aligned with communications priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and University partners to identify, develop, and amplify stories that showcase the impact of CLAS.
  • Manage the College’s social media strategy, including content planning, scheduling, publishing, community engagement, and performance assessment.
  • Serve as lead editor for digital publications, including the faculty and staff digest and alumni newsletter.
  • Monitor and report analytics for news stories, social media newsletters, and other communications initiatives to evaluate performance and inform future strategy.
  • Advise academic units on communications strategies, promotional opportunities, and best practices to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Provide communications support for College events, including promotional materials, event coverage, presentations, and other communications needs.
  • Assist with supervising student workers on editorial and social media projects.
