Communications Coordinator – Part-Time

The closing date for applying is October 16, 2026

The Raleigh Housing Authority is seeking to add new members to the team who are eager to make a difference in their community. If you are looking for more than just a job, but a place where you belong, can grow, and be part of a solution to the housing affordability crisis, we have a place for you. Enjoy the satisfaction of helping families be housed successfully and giving them an opportunity to thrive. We value service, community, respect, and equity. Commit to something that matters and begin your journey with Raleigh Housing Authority.

The Communications Coordinator supports Raleigh Housing Authority's communications team in producing resident-facing content, community outreach materials, and internal communications. This role provides hands‑on public‑sector experience by writing for audiences that include current residents, waitlist applicants, federal and local government partners, media, and the public. A central part of the role is scripting, storyboarding, and producing two to three short, animated explainer videos. All work follows Fair Housing Act requirements, accessibility standards, and plain-language principles.

This is a temporary, part‑time position requiring up to approximately 10 hours a week. The role is hybrid, and requires on‑site participation for meetings, resident events, and other activities as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
  • Content writing: Write clear, plain-language content for residents, media, government partners, and stakeholders, including resident email newsletters and articles.
  • Social media: Develop and maintain a social media content calendar for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, planning two to four weeks ahead.
  • Explainer videos: Script, storyboard, and produce two to three animated explainer videos (one to five minutes each), with captions, text overlays, and voiceover or music as appropriate.
  • Collateral refresh: Redesign or refresh resident-facing print and digital materials, using the agency's website audit and brand guidelines.
  • Event support: Support Resident Services events and outreach campaigns from start to finish, including promotional materials, day‑of help, and recap content.
  • Compliance review: Check that all materials meet Fair Housing and accessibility requirements, including equal opportunity language and logo, non‑discriminatory imagery, captions, and multi‑channel distribution for residents with limited English proficiency, low digital access, or disabilities.
  • Analytics: Track and report basic performance metrics, such as social media engagement, email open rates, and website traffic, to show what is working.
  • Training support: Help the Communications Manager create and roll out Aspire courses in SharePoint, and with related staff outreach.
  • Tool recommendations: Review the agency's current communications tools and software, and recommend improvements, especially for video creation and editing.
  • Review workflow: Follow the agency's internal review and approval process, getting supervisor sign-off on every deliverable before it is released externally.
  • Work may require planning, production, or project presentation such as an outreach campaign, a new‑resident onboarding packet, or a social media strategy, with a companion explainer video.
  • Maintains a deliverables log and portfolio of completed work.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; or current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Masters program in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media, public administration, or a related field.
  • Writing skills: Strong writing and editing ability, shown through coursework, class projects, a student publication, or a writing sample.
  • Social media: Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and with how organizations use them to reach different audiences.
  • Software: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and comfort learning new design and communications tools.
  • Work habits: Strong time‑management sils, the ability to meet deadlines within a part‑time schedule, and ability to incorporate feedback and revise your work as needed.
License and Special Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license.
  • Drug testing, criminal background check and DMV check required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Video: Experience with basic video or animation tools, such as Canva, Adobe Express, Vyond, Animaker, CapCut, or Adobe Premiere, through coursework, personal projects, or prior work.
  • Design: Experience creating graphics or print materials with tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Prior communications work: Previous internship, volunteer, or student organization experience in communications, marketing, or event support.
  • Public-sector interest: Interest in or exposure to public housing, government, nonprofits, or community‑serving organizations.
  • Accessible communication: Familiarity with plain-language writing, accessibility practices (such as captioning and alt text), or experience communicating with diverse communities.
  • Language skills: Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) or other prevalent language spoken by residents in our service area.
  • Analytics: Basic familiarity with social media or email analytics, such as Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or emailplatformreports.
