Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support day-to-day communications for the Student Experience division. The role involves fast-paced projects across content creation, design, web, social media, and calendar management, with emphasis on promoting on-campus programs and events.

Responsibilities include copyediting, accessibility, and collaboration with the division’s communications team as well as Marketing and Communications colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field; 1–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); strong copyediting and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; manage multiple deadlines; build cross-team relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day communications workflows for the division’s units and initiatives.
  • Assist with design, content creation, web, social media, photography and videography tasks.
  • Manage accessibility, calendar events, e-newsletters and divisional promotions under established guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Student Experience Division Communications team and Marketing and Communications colleagues.
  • Provide additional project support as assigned.

  • Job Description | This position will support the day-to-day communication workflows for the division’s units and initiatives through a large volume of fast-paced projects centered on student-focused communication plans, campaigns and ecosystems. Within responsibilities this position will serve as a member of the division’s Communications team, inclusive of the student team, and in executing tasks that work to increase visibility and awareness of the Student Experience Division’s distinct services, programs and events with key audiences, especially current students. The position will work to execute assigned tasks pertaining to design, content creation, web, social media, photography, videography, copyediting, accessibility, divisional calendar events, e-newsletters, student team support and additional project support as assigned, in addition to internal and external approval systems and University guidelines such as the Editorial Style Guide. Under the supervision of the Student Experience Division assistant director of Communications, this individual will support overarching strategies, with special attention to promotion of Student Experience Division distinct services, programs and events, while supporting efforts within the Division of Marketing and Communications’ overarching strategies.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, new media management or related field. One-to-three year’s experience supporting communications strategies and plans for a variety of platforms. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Suite, Photography, Videography a plus. Exceptional communication skills (written, oral and visual). Exceptional organization skills. Exceptional copyediting skills. Commitment to and demonstration of promoting an inclusive environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, make decisions and balance multiple deadlines. Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues across levels at the institution, including students.
