Job summary

The Indiana Manufacturing Association is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Director of Communications in a fast-paced operation, strengthening the public voice across social media, video, publications, and government affairs.

You will lead social media strategy, script and coordinate video content, and help manage media relations and stakeholder communications, ensuring clear, accurate messaging for members and external audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, marketing, or related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Experience in communications, public affairs, social media, digital content, government affairs, journalism, campaigns, or related field.
  • Experience developing or coordinating video content, including scripting, production logistics, interviews, editing workflows, or digital distribution.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, organizational, and project management skills, including ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Communications Coordinator

Focus: Social Media, Video Communications, Publications, Media Relations and Government Affairs Operations

Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator supports the Director of Communications in leading a fast-paced communications operation that informs, engages, and mobilizes members of the IMA. This position is responsible for strengthening the organization’s public voice across social media, video, earned media, stakeholder communications, and regulatory/legislative updates. The role requires excellent judgment, strong writing and editing skills, comfort with rapid-response communications, and the ability to translate legislative policy and organizational priorities into clear, compelling content.

Essential Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy and Execution
  • Develop and manage social media strategies that advance organizational priorities, public affairs goals, legislative initiatives, and audience engagement.
  • Create, edit, schedule, and publish content across major platforms, ensuring consistent voice, brand alignment, accessibility, and accuracy.
  • Monitor online conversations, news cycles, and stakeholder activity to identify opportunities for timely engagement and rapid response.
  • Use social media analytics to evaluate performance, refine content strategy, and report on growth, reach, engagement, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, partners, and leadership to ensure social media content reflects current priorities and supports broader communications plans.
Video Communications and Digital Storytelling
  • Lead planning, scripting, production coordination, and distribution of short-form and long-form video content for social media, events, advocacy, public education, and executive communications.
  • Develop video concepts that explain policy issues, highlight organizational initiatives, amplify memberships’ voice, and support government affairs objectives.
  • Maintain a content calendar that integrates video with social media, email, web, press, and legislative communications.
  • Ensure all video materials meet standards for accessibility, accuracy, brand consistency, and audience relevance.
  • Develop graphics and collateral for IMA Digital Marketing Campaigns.
Support IMA Governmental Affairs Activities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the communications and governmental affairs teams
  • Work with governmental affairs team to cover policy developments and communicate these to the membership and other stakeholders through member publications and social media content
  • Manage media relations (scheduling interviews, pitching op-eds, etc.) for the IMA and governmental affairs team
  • Help manage approvals, deadlines, message discipline, and operational systems that keep communications and government affairs efforts aligned.
Other Duties
  • Develop graphics and collateral for IMA Digital Marketing Campaigns
  • Support daily communications practices by collaborating with Director of Communications
Qualifications

Preferred Skills
  • Strong social media management skills, familiarity with email marketing platforms, content management systems, Adobe editing software, analytics, and media monitoring.
  • Strong digital communications skills, including video and graphic design
  • Ability to develop clear messaging and tailor content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience supporting executives, spokespeople, or subject-matter experts with preparation for media, public events, legislative meetings, or presentations.
  • Understanding of government, legislative processes, public policy, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy communications.
  • Experience working in government, public policy, association management, nonprofit advocacy, political campaigns, public affairs, or regulated industries.
  • Comfort working occasional evenings or weekends as needed for events, urgent communications, legislative activity, or rapid-response needs.
Reporting and Working Relationships

Reports to the Director of Communications and works closely with events, membership, government affairs, and membership engagement.
