Communications Coordinator

The communications coordinator plays a pivotal role in advancing the Libraries’ strategic communications and marketing efforts, serving both internal, on campus and off campus constituents. Operating within the Libraries’ communications framework, this position leads the development and execution of high-impact messaging that reflects the Libraries’ values, priorities, and initiatives.


In close collaboration with the Director of Outreach and Policy, the Communications Coordinator serves as the principal communications liaison for the Libraries. This role demands a proactive and strategic mindset, ensuring that all communications are timely, consistent, and creatively conceived to engage diverse audiences, along with doing a great deal of internal consensus building.


As a trusted advisor to the Dean, the communications coordinator provides administrative support to the Dean, as well as strategic counsel on communications to employees and key stakeholder groups across and beyond campus. The role requires sound judgment and the ability to navigate complex, sensitive, and often unique challenges, drawing on a deep understanding of university policies and external regulations.


Key Responsibilities


  • Represent the libraries to other campus communicators

  • Develop new and smart ways to represent the libraries’ resources and services to audiences across campus (and sometimes beyond)

  • Manage the development of all communications assets and employ campus-wide marketing channels for distribution of messaging

  • Consider off-campus publications as needed

  • Special communications for the dean, with an eye on its role in the larger libraries’ information landscape

  • Meetings and calendar management for the dean

  • Meeting agendas and minutes for several meetings involving the dean

  • Ad hoc dean’s office support (travel for candidates, dean-related events)


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field, proficiency in digital media environments and up to one to three years’ related experience required.

  • Strong written, oral and visual communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of technology.

  • Experience in strategic and tactical communications (print and digital).

  • Proven track record in prioritizing equity and inclusion practices across an organization.

  • Deep familiarity with social media practices and strategy (experience managing multiple channels on behalf of a brand).

  • Proven track record of collaboration and partnership to deliver a creative product with consistent results. Ability to measure and build upon results a must.


Desirable Qualifications

Experience using social media platforms and learning new technologies to share libraries communications.

Special Conditions: A probationary period may be required, Background Check required for this position, FLSA Exempt, Union Position No.


Anticipated Pay Range

$58,000-$70,000
