Job summary

Western University of Health Sciences Pomona campus is seeking a part-time Communications Assistant to support the College of Optometry’s communications across social media, the website, and newsletters. Reporting to the Director of Continuing Education and Communications, you will assist in content development and operation.

You will manage Instagram for student events, edit videos, create Canva publications, and help with monthly campaigns and heritage month recognition.

Qualifications

  • Student enrolled in the College of Optometry in good academic standing.
  • Must meet Federal Work Study qualifications (FWS).
  • Upon hire, ability to provide proof of ability to work in U.S.
  • Must have completed FAFSA.
  • Must have remaining financial aid unmet need.
  • Must be in good academic standing at Western University of Health Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Handles and oversees confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business.
  • Represents the College of Optometry at select conferences and events including, but not limited to AOA and/or AAO , outreach events as needed and clinic events for student content.
  • Participates in College events and activities including, but not limited to, Orientation, Sorting Ceremony and other annual activities as needed.
  • Handles and oversees Instagram account for student led events.
  • Assists with monthly social media campaigns and heritage month recognition.
  • Creates and edits videos.
  • Creates Pinterest images for new articles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. The University/College reserves the right to change or add duties at any time.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Continuing Education and Communications, the Communications Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development and operation of the college’s Communications ranging from social media, Website and Newsletters.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to use Social Media programs Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Tik Tok and more.
  • Ability to assist in photo database management.
  • Ability to edit videos and use Canva for publications.
  • Ability to create and format documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint..
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with administration, faculty, staff, and students in a highly responsive and professional manner.
  • Must be a self‑assured, experienced leader who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible in job assignments.
  • Ability to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, students, and outside constituents in a professional manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Student enrolled in the College of Optometry in good academic standing
