Job summary

Crescenta Valley Water District is seeking a Communications and Outreach Intern for a part-time role from September 2026 to June 2027. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in public relations and community outreach within a public agency.

You will assist with communication strategies, social media content, video production, event coordination, and outreach programs, while gaining exposure to public information in utility operations.

Qualifications

• Completed or pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills; able to work in a team.
• Comprehensive computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Proficient in video editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut, with experience creating visual content.
• Experience creating and optimizing engaging content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Nextdoor, LinkedIn).
• Ability to accurately maintain files and public records.
• Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with District staff and external partners.
• Must possess a valid California Class C driver license or equivalent.

Definition/Summary

Crescenta Valley Water District (CVWD) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Communications and Outreach Intern to join the District on a part‑time basis from September 2026 to June 2027. This paid internship offers hands‑on experience in public relations and community outreach within a public agency and is ideal for students pursuing a career in communications, public relations, public affairs, or environmental outreach.

As an intern, you will support the District’s public relations and community outreach efforts by assisting with the development and implementation of communication strategies that enhance public understanding of CVWD’s programs, projects, and services. You will gain practical experience working on a variety of public outreach activities, including social media content creation, video production, event coordination, and other communications initiatives.

This opportunity will also allow you to develop a deeper understanding of the role of public information in utility operations. Interns will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced utility professionals and gain exposure to monitoring legislation with potential impacts on the District’s operations.

Essential Functions

• Completed or be pursuing a degree from a two or four-year institution in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field;
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
• Have comprehensive computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Proficient in video editing software, including Adobe Premier Pro and CapCut, with experience creating visual content;
• Experience creating and optimizing engaging content for social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, Nextdoor, and LinkedIn;
• Ability to accurately maintain files and public records;
• Possess strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with District managers, staff, customers, consultants, and representatives of other governmental agencies;
• Possess a valid California Class C driver license (or equivalent driver’s license issued by another state or territory within the United States).

Job Specifics

• Pay: $20 -$25/hour, depending on qualifications.
• Approximate Duration: September 2026 – June 2027. Depending on school schedule, assignment may be extended.
• Hours: Up to 20 hours per week between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
• The District may close the recruitment when sufficient qualified applications have been received.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
