Job summary

Planned Parenthood of Montana is seeking a Communications & Marketing Manager to lead affiliate communications and marketing strategies, elevate health care and outreach activities, and guide crisis communications. MISSION

Planned Parenthood of Montana (PPMT) leads by providing, promoting, and protecting sexual and reproductive health care and education for all Montanans.

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications & Marketing Manager is responsible for leading affiliate communications work, including developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies to support PPMT’s development strategies and to elevate PPMT’s health care, education, and outreach activities, and providing guidance and strategy for crisis communications.

The Communications & Marketing Manager collaborates closely with executive leadership on development communications as well as brand marketing for health care and education. The Communications & Marketing Manager drives strategy to elevate the profiles of affiliate spokespeople — including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), providers, patient storytellers, and more; serves as a spokesperson and trains other spokespeople in media and message guidance; strategically responds to breaking news; formulates plans and initiatives to better support affiliate communications; provides materials and guidance, and executes work in support of PPMT; develops relationships with members of the media; and develops and executes marketing strategies that connect Montanans with PPMT services.

Development Communications
  • In coordination with Development team, draft fundraising communications, including newsletters, appeals,one-to-many communications from CEO and CDO,cases for support,and other campaign materials
  • In coordination withthe Developmentteam, supervisedesign andproductionof developmentcommunications materials.
  • Develop donor-specific messaging, and in collaboration with the Development team,engagesupportersthrough donor channels.
External Affairs Communications
  • As needed, coordinate with PPAMT and PPAMT PACto ensure electoral, legislative, fundraising, and advocacy communications goals are met, including sharing endorsements, updates, and guidingsupporters totake actionthrough digital channels.
  • Build outreach takingconceptthrough creation,development,and dissemination.
  • Developadvocacy messaging and engage supporters through new and existing channels.
General Communications and Marketing
  • In coordination with department leadership, implementmulti-levelproactive communications and marketing strategies to advance access to sexual and reproductive health care services and education programs, and promote health equity.
  • Quickly develop and implement crisis communications plans, responses, and materials, and support reactive rapidresponseto breaking news.
  • Serve as an internal consultant to teams across the affiliate on strategy and language, to ensure projects communicate appropriately and authentically on sexual and reproductive health issues.
  • Draft, review, and approvecommunications materials,includingtoolkits,pressadvisoriesand press releases, talking points, fact sheets, and briefings, in support of PPMT's proactive communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure all external facing communications, including those related to partnerships or collaborativeefforts,reflectPPMT values and the Planned Parenthood brand.
  • Coordinate with PPFA communications, brand & marketing, and digital staff to develop and execute strategic 360 communications plans to promote PPMT’s work as a trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care, health information, and sex education.
Media
  • As needed or directed, serves asmedia contact and point person, and liaison tospokespersons.
  • Conduct media and messagetrainingfor affiliate spokespeople, including staff, volunteers, and storytellers.
  • Prep and staff spokespeople for media interviews.
  • Cultivate andmaintainrelationships with key media contacts.
  • Creating content and posting on PPMT social media properties.
Website & Social Media
  • Create, post, and optimize the content on PPMT’s website and all C3 and C4social media properties.
  • Provide or direct graphic design work, including static social media images, website images, signage.
  • Track the effectiveness of strategies and content to support marketing and communications objectives.
Requirements
  • At least three (3) years of experience working in marketing and communications.
  • Strong relationships with media outlets, reporters, and partner organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills anddemonstratedcultural competence.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit proficiently and quickly, including the ability to understand and communicate about complex, technical, or sensitive subjects in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
  • Demonstratedmulti-channel marketing experience,includingemail, social media,advertisement, out-of-home marketing,and more.
  • Experience cultivating earned media.
  • Strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues. A nuanced understanding of reproductive justice is strongly preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of media trends, anda strong senseof the operations of the news media (print, online, blogs, radio, and broadcast), including how to generate favorable traction in the media.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities successfully.
  • Energetic, creative, innovative approach, with a desire to developnew ideasand solutions and bring them to life.

  • Committedto health equity, and able to draft, edit, and review materials from a racial equity lens.
  • Exceptional judgment and ability to handle rapid-response scenarios calmly under pressure.
Other Qualifications
  • This position isbased in Missoula, Great Falls, Helena, Billings or Bozeman, withoptionfor some remote work.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally throughout Montana. Travel requirement is5-10%.
