Amentum is seeking a Communications & Lab Services Tech II to support the AUTEC Mission on Andros Island, Bahamas. The role involves operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and installing a range of complex Communication & Tracking Systems across AUTEC and CONUS sites as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma, electronics background with 2–4 years’ experience, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance.

  • PC literacy to maintain databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Must be able to work aboard ships at sea.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment.
  • Able to distinguish basic color codes for communications cables.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • Valid passport and Driver’s license required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test and install complex Communication & Tracking Systems at AUTEC and CONUS sites as required.
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting of electronic equipment to component level and complete repairs.
  • Utilize antenna testers, watt meters, VOMs, pulse generators, test sets, and signal analyzers.
  • Install and verify operation of electronic tracking devices aboard Navy vessels and aircraft.
  • Perform administrative actions and maintenance of PBX.
  • Install telephones and CATV drops.
  • Assist in new equipment installation and Operational Acceptance Testing.
  • Maintain shipboard communications installations.
  • Train lower-level technicians as necessary.
  • Analyze equipment and systems daily to assess performance.
  • Keep administrative records and spares inventories for maintenance of assigned systems.
  • Perform on-call communications duties as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Amentum is seeking a Communications & Lab Services Tech II to support the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission in Andros Island, Bahamas. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments. The Communications & Lab Services Tech II is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and the installation of a variety of complex Communication & Tracking Systems installed throughout the AUTEC project, and at CONUS sites as required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and the installation of a variety of complex Communication & Tracking Systems installed throughout the AUTEC project, and at CONUS sites as required.
  • Perform in depth troubleshooting of electronic equipment to component level and complete and documents repairs.
  • Utilize antenna testers, WATT Meters, VOMs, pulse generators, Communications Test Sets, dynamic signal analyzers and other various test equipment.
  • Install and verify operation of electronic tracking devices aboard U.S. Navy vessels and aircraft.
  • Perform Administrative actions and maintenance of PBX.
  • Perform installation of Telephones and CATV drops.
  • Assist in new equipment installation and Operational Acceptance Testing.
  • Able to maintain shipboard communications installations.
  • Train lower-level technicians as necessary.
  • Performs analysis of equipment and systems daily to assess performance.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Background in electronics with 2-4 years’ experience.
  • PC literate to maintain data bases creates spreadsheets and word processing skills required.
  • Must be able to work aboard ships at sea.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment. Reach above the shoulders and climb using legs and arms to perform tasks.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors codes for communications cables.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • Valid passport and Driver’s license required.
  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three-Five (3-5) years’ experience in installation, repair and maintenance of complex Communications systems and subsystems desired.
  • Prior experience in Crypto installation and repair. To include KY-58, KG-175 and KIV-7.
  • Digital Microwave maintenance and operations.
  • Proficient with test equipment required for in-depth analysis of equipment and systems.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ certification or an equivalent DoD 8140 baseline qualification (IAT Level II or IAM Level I).
