Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Communications and Knowledge Management Program Manager (PM 2/3) to lead the overall communication strategy for ALDW-PIO and support knowledge capture across initiatives such as WESJ, FUTURES, and RESSQ.
The role involves coordinating internal and external communications, organizing symposia, and ensuring timely, confidential information flow among authors, editors, and reviewers.
This position will be filled at the Program Manager 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering Program Integration Office - Mission Integration and Special Projects Office (ALDW-PIO-MISP) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks a full-time Communications and Knowledge Management Program Manager (Program Manager 2/3).
ALDW-PIO manages the manifold programs and initiatives necessary to execute complex, multidisciplinary, expanding scope for weapons engineering. This position principally supports several distinct Mission Integration initiatives, including the Weapons Engineering Symposium and Journal (WESJ), Risk-based Engineering Streamlined System Qualification (RESSQ), Focused Technologies for Rapid Engineering Solutions (FUTURES) programs, and the overall communications strategy for ALDW-PIO focused areas. WESJ is LANL's peer-reviewed, classified technical journal; RESSQ is a nascent program devising a weapons engineering playbook for efficient execution of complex, high intensity LANL scope; and FUTURES assesses innovative technologies for potential short-term development and direct mission application. The initiatives are led by technical experts, but much of the relevant work is logistical and relies on careful communication across a broad spectrum of LANL staff and various levels of LANL management.
In support of strategic and tactical communications, the selected candidate will lead the development and execution of the overall communication strategy for ALDW-PIO. In this role, the selected candidate will provide communication expertise and guidance across both internal and external interfaces, ensuring messaging is clear, consistent, timely, and aligned with ALDW-PIO priorities. The selected candidate will also support the development, coordination, and delivery of communications to effectively convey organizational priorities, accomplishments, key initiatives, and other mission relevant information to stakeholders and partners.
This position also focuses on building the frameworks, programs, tools, and relationships that embed knowledge-capture and sharing practices into the culture and operations of Weapons Engineering.
The selected candidate will also provide leadership and rapid-turnaround communication with technical contributors to orchestrate the complex, non-technical logistics and communications of the programs. For the WESJ program, the selected candidate will organize the quarterly WESJ and WESJ-FUTURES symposia, and act as the central communication hub for a high-volume stream of emails on unclassified and classified networks. The selected candidate will ensure that technical authors, tech writers, symposia presenters, and peer-reviewers receive appropriate information in a timely manner while maintaining careful confidentiality around sensitive reviews, and the selected candidate will maintain exacting records and documentation as each paper makes its way through the peer-review process, all under the direction of the WESJ Executive Editor.
For the FUTURES program, the selected candidate will provide organization of topics, scheduling meetings, organizing non-technical logistics and communications, monitoring progress and integration with Risk Assessments, RESSQ, and ALDW priorities, as well as maintaining the FUTURES schedule.
For the RESSQ initiative, the selected candidate will assist the Technical and Project Managers with the organization and execution of the program, including scheduling meetings and developing associated agendas, maintaining the program's Teams site and folder structure, tracking resultant action items, gathering regular schedule updates and maintaining the overall program schedule, generating monthly earned value management reports, and assisting in the generation of monthly progress reports for LANL Line and Program Management as well as NNSA Federal Program Managers.
As a Program Manager 2, the candidate will perform tasks and be responsible for including but not limited to the following:
As Program Manager 3, in addition to the core responsibilities outlined at the lower level:
Education/Experience at Program Manager 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
