Job description

Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company on a mission to transform an industry starving for innovation. Harbinger’s best-in-class team of EV, battery, and drivetrain experts have pooled their deep experience to bring a first-of-its-kind EV platform to support the growing demand for medium-duty EVs and Hybrids. Harbinger: Familiar Form, Revolutionary Foundation.

Role Overview

Harbinger is seeking a Commodity Manager, Service to manage the sourcing, purchasing, and supply of replacement parts required to support Harbinger vehicles throughout their lifecycle. This role will be responsible for ensuring the right parts are available at the right cost, quantity, quality, and time to support service centers, dealers, fleet customers, warranty operations, and vehicles in the field.

The Commodity Manager, Service will work closely with the different teams crossfunctionally: Service Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Warranty, Finance and suppliers; to establish and maintain a reliable service-parts supply network. This includes managing supplier relationships, placing and expediting purchase orders, monitoring demand and inventory, resolving shortages, negotiating commercial terms and contracts, and supporting new vehicle launches and engineering changes.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who understands that aftermarket supply has different requirements from production purchasing. Service parts demand can be unpredictable, order quantities may be low, lead times can be long, and the cost of a stockout can be significant for a commercial vehicle customer. The ideal candidate is analytical, operationally focused, commercially savvy, and comfortable balancing service level, inventory investment, supplier performance, and total cost.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation: Develop comprehensive sourcing strategies and negotiate commercial terms (pricing, lead times, MOQs) to optimize cost and availability while driving continuous cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Tactical Execution & Risk Mitigation: Manage daily purchasing activities (POs, delivery schedules, expedites), lead shortage recovery, and monitor supplier KPIs (on-time delivery, fill rate) to protect field service operations.
  • Inventory & Demand Planning: Translate demand forecasts, warranty data, and vehicle population into actionable replenishment plans, balancing required service levels with optimized inventory (safety stock, MOQs, E&O).
  • Lifecycle & Change Management: Manage the purchasing impact of engineering changes (ECOs/PCOs), part supersessions, substitutions, and end-of-life requirements.
  • NPI & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure aftermarket readiness for new vehicle launches (SOP) and partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to resolve supplier issues and support field service/warranty campaigns.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Education & Baseline Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent) with 3+ years of purchasing/supply chain experience, preferably in automotive, EV, aerospace, or managing low-volume/high-variability aftermarket parts.
  • Purchasing & Supplier Management: Proven ability to manage day-to-day supplier performance, purchase orders, delivery schedules, shortages, expedites, and inventory planning.
  • Commercial & Analytical Acumen: Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable pricing, lead times, and commercial terms while balancing customer service against inventory investment and total cost.
  • Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for evaluating demand, identifying trends, and analyzing large datasets.
  • Execution & Working Style: Highly independent problem-solver with excellent cross-functional communication skills, capable of managing competing, time-sensitive priorities in a fast-paced environment. (Willingness to travel periodically as required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aftermarket & Parts Expertise: Familiarity with automotive BOMs, parts catalogs, ECOs, and managing low-volume, obsolete, or warranty-driven parts.
  • Quality & Supplier Development: Knowledge of automotive quality systems, corrective actions, and standard processes (APQP, PPAP, FMEA).
  • Advanced Sourcing: Experience managing multi-tier global suppliers, executing should-cost analysis, and driving competitive benchmarking.
  • Systems & Launch Readiness: Experience with aftermarket inventory/demand-planning systems and establishing parts readiness prior to new vehicle SOP.
  • Logistics: Knowledge of automotive warehousing, distribution, freight, and aftermarket fulfillment processes.
  • Early-stage Stock Options
  • Robust Retirement Savings (401k, HSA, FSA)
  • Annual Vacation Bonus
  • Wellness & Fertility Benefits
  • Cell Phone Stipend
  • Complimentary Meals & Stocked Kitchens
