Job summary

McKinstry is seeking a Commodity Manager – Controls Components to support the Offsite Manufacturing division in Spokane, WA. You will lead procurement, sourcing, and strategic management of controls and instrumentation, partnering with Engineering, Production, Finance, and Procurement to develop sourcing strategies and improve supply chain resilience.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 5+ years in procurement, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and proficiency with ERP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in related field.
  • 5+ years in procurement, purchasing, or commodity management; tech/equipment sourcing preferred.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP/procurement systems and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Procurement and Sourcing: identify and evaluate suppliers, lead sourcing, negotiate terms.
  • Strategic Planning: develop commodity sourcing strategies aligned to OSM and procurement goals.
  • Market Analysis: monitor markets and trends to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Inventory and Budget Management: analyze inventory and budgets for timely procurement.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: maintain vendor relationships and audit compliance.
  • Knowledge Sharing: mentor buyers and analysts; share subject matter expertise.
  • Risk Mitigation: develop strategies for price volatility and supply disruptions.

The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding a Commodity Manager – Controls Components to our growingOffsite Manufacturing division in Spokane, WA. The Commodity Manager supports the procurement, sourcing, and strategic management of controls and instrumentation within McKinstry’s Offsite Manufacturingdepartment.This role partners cross functionally with Engineering, Production, Finance, and Procurement to develop and inform sourcing strategies,optimizesupply chain performance, andsupportalignment with organizational priorities. Through supplier evaluation, market insight, and data driven recommendations, the Commodity Manager influences cost efficiency, operational effectiveness, and supply chain resilience across OSM.

Primary commodity responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Control Panels, Control Valves, Differential Pressure Transmitters, Temperature Transmitters and Sensors.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Procurement and Sourcing:Identifyand evaluate potential suppliers, leadand influencesourcing activities, and negotiate commercial terms. Conduct contract research and develop recommendations on pricing, lead times, and supplier selection in partnership with Quality and Value Stream leadership for final approval.
  • Strategic Planning:Develop and recommend commodity specific sourcing strategies aligned to OSM and enterprise procurement direction.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor commodity markets, global economic trends, and industry developments to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Inventory and Budget Management: Analyze inventory levels, production schedules, and budgets tosupporttimelyand cost-effective procurement.
  • Supplier Relationship Management:Maintainpositive relationships with vendors, evaluate supplier performance, andsupportcompliance with organizational standards.Support supplier audits and qualification processes, partnering with Quality on approved vendor list decisions.
  • Knowledge Sharing:Provide guidance and subject matterexpertiseto buyers, procurement specialists, and analysts; may mentor or support less experienced team members.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop strategies to manage price volatility, supply disruptions, and regulatory compliance.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related fieldOR equivalentpractical experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement,purchasing, or commodity management, withdemonstratedexperience in technical or equipment-based sourcing environments.Manufacturing/modularconstruction industry experiencepreferred.
  • Strong analytical skillsas appliedto forecasting, demandassessment, and pricing dataevaluation.
  • Proven negotiation skills with experience securing favorable supplier contracts.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understand market dynamics, supply chain processes, and commodity-specific requirements.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiencyin ERP/procurement systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred: CPSM, CSCP, or equivalent supply chain/procurement certification.

The pay range for this positionis $84,240 - $145,200per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensationpackage, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits,dependenton the position offered.
