Job summary

Dorman Products is seeking a Commodity Manager to drive sourcing across metals, plastics, components, and finished goods. You will monitor markets, assess risks, and develop supplier strategies with leadership input.

Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally may be required. You will lead negotiations, audits, and supplier development while ensuring quality and cost targets are met through collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Operations Management.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain activities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading supplier negotiations and supplier development initiatives.
  • Ability to solve problems, be resourceful, and adapt to a changing business environment.
  • Manage multiple projects and communicate effectively via Teams, Zoom, and other channels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Preferred: metals, fabricated components, machined parts, electronics, plastics, or finished goods knowledge; experience with aluminum and steel markets; background in manufacturing or consumer products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned commodities and finished goods.
  • Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, tariffs, material costs, and supply risks.
  • Identify and qualify domestic and international suppliers; establish supplier relationships.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and corrective action initiatives.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, terms, lead times, and long-term supply arrangements.
  • Support New Product Development and engineering changes with sourcing input.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to support launches and decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reductions, supplier consolidation, and process improvements.

Primary Duties

Commodity Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned commodities, raw materials, components, and finished goods categories.
  • Monitor commodity markets, indexes, pricing trends, tariffs, material costs, and supply chain risks.
  • Analyze aluminum, steel, plastics, electronic components, and other key commodity markets to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Provide leadership with regular market intelligence updates and strategic recommendations.
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop domestic and international suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships focused on quality, cost, delivery, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and corrective action initiatives.
  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality and business requirements.

Strategic Sourcing & Negotiations

  • Lead sourcing activities supporting New Product Development, engineering changes, and production requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, lead times, inventory agreements, and long‑term supply arrangements.
  • Drive year‑over‑year cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and service expectations.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply chain disruptions and material shortages.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to support product development and sourcing decisions.
  • Evaluate material alternatives and supplier capabilities to improve product performance, manufacturability, and profitability.
  • Support product launches through timely supplier selection and sourcing activities.

Business Impact & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement sourcing strategies that improve inventory performance, cost competitiveness, and supplier reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, process improvements, and risk mitigation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that contribute to organizational growth and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management or a related field
  • Minimum of 3years’ experience in sourcing, procurement, supply chain, project management, or engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience leading supplier negotiations and supplier development initiatives.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems, be resourceful, and adapt to an ever‑changing business environment.
  • This position will manage multiple projects simultaneously and report to the team via phone, Teams, Zoom, and other communication channels.
  • Candidates must have excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience sourcing metals, fabricated components, machined parts, electronics, plastics, or finished goods.
    • Experience with aluminum and steel markets, commodity indexes, and cost modeling.
    • Experience within manufacturing, automotive, power sports, industrial products, or consumer products industries.
    • Knowledge of global sourcing, international trade, tariffs, and import/export practices.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.This role is also eligible for a bonus.
