Job summary

Trinity Health Muskegon is hiring Nurse Externs for our Med/Surg unit. If you are in the final year of your RN or BSN program, you’ll gain hands-on clinical experience while working with experienced nursing professionals.

The program includes an orientation schedule, a 32-hour per month minimum commitment, and a two-year career pathway: one year as a Nurse Extern and one year as a Registered Nurse with Trinity Health. A $7,500 commitment bonus is offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School diploma.
• Currently in final year of RN or BSN program and in good standing.
• Must have completed first year of nursing clinicals and skills validation.
• Maintain current nursing knowledge and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on clinical experience in the Med/Surg unit.
• Participate in orientation and work as Nurse Extern with experienced staff.
• Follow hospital policies and patient care standards.

Calling All Future Nurses! Join Trinity Health Muskegon as a Nurse Extern! Are you entering the final year of your RN or BSN program and ready to gain hands-on clinical experience? Trinity Health Muskegon is hiring Nurse Externs for our Med/Surg unit!

Position Highlights

• Relief (Per Diem) role with a minimum commitment of 32 hours per month
• Orientation held Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

May perform the following clinical skills

• Foley insertion
• Patient positioning
• NG insertion

• Tube feedings
• Vital signs
• Wound care
• Enemas

Skills that MAY NOT be performed

• 1. Maintaining IV's, IV pumps, PCA's, IVPB
• 2. Initiating or assisting with the administration of blood or blood products (except vital sign monitoring)
• 3. Passing medications
• 4. Taking physician phone or verbal orders

Required Qualifications

• 1. Minimum: High School diploma.
• 2. Current enrollment in last year of an accredited RN or BSN program and remains in good standing.
• 3. Must have successfully completed the first year of nursing clinicals and skills validation through an accredited ADN nursing program.
• 4. Must maintain current nursing knowledge and BLS certification.
