Job summary

KODIAK Construction Recruiting & Staffing is seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to support testing, startup, verification and turnover of building systems for complex commercial projects in Houston. The role collaborates with project managers, engineers, subcontractors and owners to ensure systems meet drawings and specs.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years in commissioning or related fields, OSHA 30, and experience with HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commissioning or related field experience.
• Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
• Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Ability to read drawings, specs and equipment docs.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, MS Project preferred or related tools.
• Certifications in commissioning or related fields strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support commissioning and turnover of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, life safety and controls systems.
• Verify installations against approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements and applicable codes.
• Participate in startup, functional performance testing, equipment operation and system verification.
• Coordinate testing activities with project teams, subcontractors, engineers and owners.
• Schedule and track testing to support project milestones and turnover dates.
• Assist with commissioning plans, procedures, checklists and testing documentation.
• Identify, track and help resolve commissioning issues and deficiencies.
• Prepare reports documenting testing, corrective actions and system performance.
• Maintain commissioning logs, punch lists and turnover records.
• Verify completion of testing, balancing, controls integration and equipment startup documentation.
• Assist with Building Automation System, energy-management and integrated-controls testing.
• Support troubleshooting of controls sequences and communication between interconnected systems.

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to support the testing, startup, verification and turnover of building systems during the final phases of construction.

This position works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, engineers and owners to confirm that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, life safety and building automation systems are installed and operating according to approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.

What You Will Do

What We Are Seeking

• 2–5 years of experience in commissioning, commercial construction, facility operations, MEP trades, building systems or a related field
• Associate degree, technical certification or trade‑school training preferred
• Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls or building automation systems
• Experience supporting startup, testing, balancing, troubleshooting or system verification
• OSHA 30 certification
• Ability to read drawings, specifications and equipment documentation
• Strong documentation, communication and problem‑solving skills
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, Revit or MS Project preferred
• Certified Commissioning Technician, Certified Commissioning Process Provider coursework, HVAC certifications, electrical certifications and controls‑related certifications are strongly preferred.
