Job summary

MasTec, Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Technician to join a team performing system inspections on utility PV power plants. You will conduct mechanical/electrical inspections, document test results, and communicate findings to the Commissioning CM/GF.

The role includes troubleshooting support and ensuring compliance with safety policies. Responsibilities include completing commissioning documentation, leading field testing, and coordinating with third-party testers.

Qualifications

  • Three years of electrical experience in the industrial sector or renewables, or two years as MasTec Commissioning Tech I.
  • Classroom education or training in photovoltaic systems preferred.
  • Photovoltaic installation experience.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection and testing of PV plants to specifications and contract documents.
  • Complete all commissioning documentation during inspection.
  • Document outstanding issues and deliver documentation for review by CM/GF.
  • Perform LOTO duties as outlined by company policies.
  • Perform field test data entry as needed.
  • Perform final visual and mechanical inspections before energization.
  • Support third-party testing and inspections.

Job description

Overview

Position Summary: Responsible for working within a team to perform required system inspections on utility PV power plants, perform mechanical/electrical inspections and commissioning testing, document all inspections, observations, and test results, communicate findings with Commissioning CM/GF, and assist with PV system troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the inspection and testing of PV plants to specifications and contract documents.
  • Complete all commissioning documentation during inspection.
  • Document all outstanding issues and deliver all documentation in a neat and orderly manner for review by the General Foreman and Commissioning Manager.
  • Perform LOTO duties as outlined by the company and site‑specific policies.
  • Perform field test data entry as needed.
  • Perform final visual and mechanical inspections on equipment before energization date.
  • Support third‑party testing and inspections (e.g., Transformers, MV audits, MV cable tests).
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and conformity to safety procedures by all employees.
  • Keep testing equipment clean and orderly at all times; ensure calibration is up to date.
  • Report missing or broken tools to CM/GF and notify when consumable supplies are low.
  • Care for and maintain all issued PPE per manufacturer specifications.
  • Collaborate with and lead other Techs to ensure quality of work and adherence to all safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Classroom education or training in photovoltaic systems preferred.
  • Photovoltaic installation experience.
  • Three years of electrical experience in the industrial sector or in fields related to renewables, or two years of experience as a MasTec Commissioning Tech I.
  • OSHA 10‑hour, First Aid/CPR, NFPA 70E certifications preferred.
  • Ability to take lead in commissioning tasks with minimal oversight.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of own and others’ health and safety, taking personal responsibility toward MasTec’s Zero Injury principles.
  • Read and understand electrical single‑line and three‑line diagrams.
  • Use a multimeter/commissioning test equipment (e.g., meters, insulation resistance tooling, DET 2/3, Solmetric/Seaward testing units).
  • Understand electrical theory and base troubleshooting methods.
  • Apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions.
  • Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.

Working Environment:

  • Worksite involves exposure to hazards requiring basic safety precautions.
  • May involve moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
