Job description

OVERVIEW

Merrick is seeking a Commissioning Specialist II to become part of our growing Commissioning team.

Typical salary range for this position is $81,000.00 - $102,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Coordinate, perform and oversee detailed field commissioning services, assessments, and studies for all types of facilities/systems including the following: laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, clean rooms.
  • Generate commissioning plans; write commissioning specifications; develop commissioning installation checklists and functional test procedures; verify and validate commissioned systems controls and equipment; document commissioning process, develop final commissioning report, and develop systems manuals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR a (2) Year Technical Associates Degree from an accredited institution with practical commissioning, controls, or testing experience.
  • Must have five (5) years or more experience in the commissioning of these systems:
    • HVAC (air and hydronic),
    • controls,
    • plumbing,
    • laboratory equipment
    • fire protection,
    • security, and/or
    • electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.
  • Optional experience that will also be considered:
    • Experience in the commissioning of bio-containment laboratory facilities (BSL3, BSL3Ag, BSL4)
    • Experience in commissioning of other types of high-tech, mission-critical facilities
    • Experience with HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc)
    • Experience with construction administration
    • LEED/Green Globes/Guiding Principles Compliance
    • PE, BCxP, CxA, LEED AP
  • The client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.
  • Frequent travel to project/client locations is required with possible international travel.

Location:

  • Either Georgia (greater Atlanta area), Maryland, or the greater DC area is preferred; however, other locations near major airports will be considered.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be ambitious and flexible; have a talent for efficiency and process improvement; and have an attitude to succeed.
  • Be a Self-starter and independently motivated individual. Must be able to work as a member of a close team and be able to work independently as necessary.
  • Have good organizational and planning skills with the ability to direct a team through the execution of the commissioning process.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience coordinating with owners and contractors, as well as the ability to lead project meetings are necessary skills.
  • Have the ability to generate accurate, detailed reports.
  • Have the ability to read and understand building drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Have knowledge of controls systems and control sequences.
  • Be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point). Familiarity with AutoCad and/or Revit will be considered an asset.
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a US security clearance.
  • Achieve commissioning certification under ASHRAE, ACG and/or BCA within the first three years of engagement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and facilities
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Mobile crawling in and around mechanical space with piping and ductwork
  • Ability to carry test instruments and equipment
  • Lift 50 pounds
  • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • The job requires the ability to perform work in a laboratory environment.
