Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Commissioning Specialist I to join the MCHT Team in Houston. You will execute test procedures, capture results, and learn mission-critical systems while helping deliver reliable capacity safely and on schedule.

Responsibilities include coordinating commissioning activities for mechanical and electrical systems, developing plans, documenting results, and ensuring compliance with industry codes. Travel up to 75% may be required.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in Data Operations, System Support, or Commissioning Activities.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data validation techniques.
• Excellent organizational, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes.
• Able to read and interpret construction drawings and one-line drawings.
• OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR certification (IPS will provide tools) must be maintained.

We are looking for a talented Commissioning Specialist I to join our dedicated MCHT Team.

In this role, you'll execute test procedures, capture results, and learn mission-critical systems while helping deliver reliable capacity safely and on schedule.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support the commissioning team in executing test procedures, recording data, and resolving basic defects under close supervision. Learns site safety, systems, and commissioning methods.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, and associated systems.
• Testing and Verification: Develop and execute commissioning plans, conduct performance tests, verify control systems, and ensure that mechanical systems meet design specifications and operational requirements.
• Quality Control: Identify and report deviations from standards or project specifications, working to ensure that mechanical systems are built and maintained to the highest quality standards.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of commissioning activities, test results, and discrepancies. Prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory compliance.
• Safety and Compliance: Ensure that mechanical systems adhere to relevant industry regulations, standards, and safety guidelines, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, engineering teams, vendors, and contractors to coordinate commissioning activities, resolve issues, and ensure successful project delivery.
• Problem Resolution: Investigate and diagnose mechanical system issues, working with relevant teams to implement effective solutions, troubleshoot problems, and optimize system performance.
• Training and Support: Provide guidance and training to data center staff and operators on the proper use and maintenance of mechanical systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Assist in planning and implementing preventive maintenance programs for mechanical systems to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 0-2 years of experience in Data Operations, System Support, or Commissioning Activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer systems, engineering, or related field.
• Commissioning and System startup experience.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
• Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

• Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
• Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocols

Travel

• Travel based on the project location.
• Must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Travel will be per the IPS Travel Policy, client-specific travel policy, or project-specific travel plan.
• Must have access to reliable transportation.

Safety

• This position is a safety-sensitive position.
• The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other "non-administrative" areas.
