Job summary

IPS is seeking a Commissioning Lead, Mechanical, to join our team in Cary, NC, or near the Houston project site in Texas. The role focuses on standalone commissioning, with responsibilities including developing test scripts, facilitating functional testing of MEP systems, and delivering comprehensive commissioning reports.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in mechanical/HVAC commissioning, strong QA/QC, and experience with regulatory and LEED commissioning requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of mechanical/HVAC commissioning experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in start-up, QA/QC, and commissioning.
• Experience with commissioning processes and related activities.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements (cGMP) and LEED commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Lead standalone commissioning projects and consult on commissioning strategy.
• Develop and execute functional tests for MEP systems (HVAC, chillers, CRAC, etc.).
• Review design criteria, drawings, submittals, and specifications for commissioning readiness.
• Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports and deficiency logs.
• Mentor and guide commissioning consultants and staff; support business development.

We are looking for a talented Commissioning Lead, Mechanical to join our dedicated team at our office located in Cary, North Carolina, or near our project site in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will perform mission-critical facilities commissioning-based services with a primary focus on standalone commissioning. You will also consult on and manage commissioning projects as developed and defined in project agreements with IPS’ clients. Additionally, you will perform site auditing, quality reviews, and commissioning services as required to meet project requirements and develop business opportunities and projects with a primary focus on commissioning and related consulting.

Additional Responsibilities

• Provides client management functions.


• Provide working knowledge in the delivery of technical projects in these areas.


• Provide consulting-based services in areas of expertise.


• Manage project teams delivering primarily standalone commissioning.


• Equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; development of test scripts, checklists, and Comprehensive Commissioning documentation.


• Write comprehensive reports which include the following sections: recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation, reports (air flow, heat transfer, etc.), and manuals.


• Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other pertinent documentation to commissioning.


• Develop and administer functional tests for various building MEP systems, such as fire alarm and control systems, HVAC, Chillers, and CRAC units.


• Integrated system testing; compilation of all testing procedure results, and commission plan preparation.


• Support, train, mentor, and guide Commissioning Consultants and overall department staff in the delivery of commissioning services and areas of expertise.


• Perform commissioning-related audits of clients’ facilities and quality systems.


• Assume Project Management/Project Executive roles as requested and required to meet IPS workload demands.


• Remain highly active in professional organizations and strive to be recognized in the industry.


• Provide training and seminar presentations to the industry.


• Network at professional functions and develop project leads and opportunities through industry contacts.


• Support strategic BD activities through networking.


• Generate and perform commissioning deliverable activities, audits, and other related services as required, to meet project requirements and personal billability goals.


• Work with potential new and existing clients to initiate projects following current industry practices.


• Perform strategic and master planning activities to assure projects are initiated/started “on the right foot”.


• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in a related field is required or equivalent experience.


• 8+ years’ experience in the Mechanical/ HVAC Field.


• Demonstrated/recognized areas of expertise by industry in start-up, QA/QC, and commissioning.


• Experience with commissioning and other related activities and processes.


• Detailed experience in a commissioning discipline with a knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical.


• Design/Build/Commission/Validate processes and how they relate to regulatory requirements and cGMP regulations within the E.U. and U.S. FDA.


• Familiar with LEED commissioning requirements


• Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience.


• Experience with leading CxA Projects.


• Mechanical equipment testing experience in a Critical Facilities / Data Center Facilities environment.


• Experience with Level 1-5 Commissioning.

Preferred Qualifications

• A/E experience working in complex facilities or mission-critical projects.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.


• Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.


• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.


• Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

• Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.

Travel

• This position will have up to 100% travel, or as required by the assigned project.


• Position may be assigned to the client site for an extended period.


• Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.


• Travel will be per the IPS Travel Policy, client-specific travel policy, or project-specific travel plan.


• Must have access to reliable transportation.

Safety

• This position is a safety-sensitive position.


• The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.
