Job summary

EEI, an employee-owned firm, seeks a Commissioning Project Manager to lead commissioning, QA, and performance testing for data centers, healthcare facilities, and other high-reliability environments.   • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Sciences, or related field.
  • 5+ years in commissioning, project management, building systems, controls, construction, or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, controls, and building automation.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships across multiple projects.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

As a Commissioning Project Manager, you will provide leadership for commissioning, quality assurance, and performance testing of critical facilities, including data centers, healthcare facilities, and other high reliability environments. This role requires overseeing all commissioning activities, managing project schedules, budgets, and resources, ensuring that systems are fully functional and compliant with project specifications, standards, and client expectations.

In this role, you will manage all aspects of commissioning project delivery, from planning and design review through functional performance testing and project turnover. You will oversee project budgets, schedules, resources, and client relationships while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary project teams. Your leadership will help drive project success, maintain quality standards, and strengthen EEI's reputation for technical excellence and exceptional client service.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead commissioning projects through planning, design, construction, testing, and project closeout.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and overall project performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, design teams, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead commissioning activities including startup verification, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Review design documents, specifications, submittals, and sequences of operation to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Identify project risks, manage issues proactively, and develop effective solutions that keep projects moving forward.
  • Mentor and support junior commissioning staff while contributing to EEI's culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in commissioning, project management, building systems, controls, construction, healthcare, laboratory, mission‑critical, or other high‑reliability environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, controls, and building automation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, resources, client relationships, and project deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, contractors, design teams, vendors, and facility personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience facilitating meetings, presenting technical information, and building trusted stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and other tools used to support project delivery and commissioning activities.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting data center, healthcare, laboratory, higher education, federal, industrial, or other complex facility projects.
  • Experience leading functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and construction turnover activities.
  • Professional certifications such as CCP, CBCP, CxA, PMP, PE, EIT, LEED AP, or similar industry credentials.
Working Conditions:
Typical Travel:

Up to 50% (travel to project sites throughout the region will be required)

Work Environment:

Hybrid environment of office and in field for site visits. Site visits may include exposure to construction environments, uneven grounds, varying weather conditions, and field interactions.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform site inspections, which may include walking project sites, climbing ladders, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, and working in confined spaces when needed. Reasonable accommodation may be provided.

Reports to: Operational Leader

Supervisory duties: Technical leadership, mentoring, and project direction to Assistant Project Managers, Commissioning Engineers, and other project team members.

Partners with: Works closely with EEI Associates, Directors, Project Managers, Technical Leads, Commissioning Engineers, and Operations staff. Collaborates regularly with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility personnel.

Key Representative to: EEI clients, contractors, vendors and project stakeholders.
