Job Description

This position is responsible for managing large to mega size complex commissioning and start up projects or overseeing multiple small/large and/or less complex sites/projects. This position reports functionally to the Senior Director of Commissioning and Start up and/or to the Director of Commissioning and Start up of the respective business group and administratively to the assigned project director/manager in the home office and site manager in the field.

• Provide a planned, documented, and managed engineering and construction approach to the commissioning and turnover requirements for pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, operations and testing and final hand-over of facilities, systems, and equipment to the client
• Participate in the development of the site quality manual (SQM) in assisting the construction quality manager and engineering discipline leads in determining the appropriate requirements for the equipment and project location to be included in the SQM
• Conduct monthly and quarterly interviews and maintain close client relationship with client plant manager
• Participate in development and management of the commissioning and start up budget
• Participate in subcontractor plans for pre-commissioning, commissioning, training, testing and start up activities
• Develop and maintain the system centric integrated commissioning and start up schedule; control all costs associated with commissioning and start up labor and equipment; develop a commissioning and turnover plan; and integrate activities and deliverables with engineering, procurement, construction management, and commissioning and turnover
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and eighteen (18) years of work-related experience or a or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty-two (22) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Other Job Requirements

• Understand the current capabilities of automation tools and confirm that they are being utilized to the full benefit of the department and project
• Support sales efforts by assisting in sales presentations, estimates and proposals including negotiating commercial terms
• Develop and execute the appropriate section of the project procedures manual for the project assigned
• Maintain a safe work environment by administering a proactive environmental, health and safety program oriented towards maintenance activities and zero accidents
• Participate in the career development of Commissioning and Start up personnel
• Continually improve personal technical, commercial, and organizational knowledge and skills
• Align and incorporate new team members through coaching and/or other orientation practices
• Enhance skills, performance, and development of all employees by sponsoring and promoting training programs so that adherence to specifications is ensured and work of the highest quality prevails

Preferred Qualifications

• Functional knowledge of all areas of plant/facility pre-commissioning, commissioning, operations and/or maintenance and start up technology
• Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to achieve business and project results
• Ability to develop and implement a detailed and integrated commissioning and start up process and plan
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to travel on a short notice both internationally and domestically for short and long term assignments
• Proficient in the use of Projects Online
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Previous successful leadership role during mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, operations planning and start up
• Demonstrated ability to develop successful professional relationships and become a team player as a sole contributor within the team
• Functional knowledge of all areas of plant/facility pre-commissioning, commissioning, operations and/or maintenance and start up technology
• Twelve (12) years Commissioning and Start up home office and site experience and minimum of five (5) years experience managing large to mega size, somewhat complex commissioning and start up projects
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in discipline operations and/or commissioning and start up
• Experienced in Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK), Program Management Consultant (PMC), Engineering & Procurement (EP), Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction/Construction Management (EPFC/CM), Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning (EPCC), Construction Management (CM), Front End Loading (FEL), Front End Engineering & Design (FEED), pre-commissioning, commissioning, training, start up, etc., type project for strategic planning, implementation and execution
• Ability to build effective relationships with client, project management, engineering, construction, and vendor personnel
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office suite of software programs, knowledge management portals and communities, Lotus Notes, Primavera and MS Project scheduling software
• Ability to speak/read multiple languages

Salary Range

135,000 to 250,000

Market Rate

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
