Overview

U.S. Electrical Testing specializes in electrical acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and commissioning services for the nation’s most recognizable mission-critical facilities, secure environments, commercial and industrial clients, and electrical contractors. The company’s capabilities include emergency response, engineering services, and turn-key installation and repair.

Responsibilities

The Commissioning Engineer team is responsible for performing final testing, startup, and commissioning of low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, relays, and motor control centers, as well as other electrical apparatus both in the field and in a manufacturing environment. An understanding of sophisticated electrical distribution systems of complex electrical test equipment is required. You will contribute to a safe working environment for co-workers and customers and help ensure the overall success of projects. Local, regional, and national travel may be required.

  • Assists more experienced Commissioning specialists in coordinating and reviewing electrical deliverables.
  • Prepares and reviews simple electrical sketches, CX plans, and data sheets.
  • Performs simple routine electrical calculations.
  • Assists in the review of supplier documentation for compliance with specifications.
  • Uses the electrical engineering website to access department guides and standards.
  • Basic knowledge of commissioning, inspection, and testing of electrical components and systems.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering theories.
  • Basic power system familiarity with switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, power panels, protection relays, UPS systems, power monitoring systems, test equipment, etc.
  • Proficient with technical writing.
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematics.
  • Basic awareness of industry codes and standards.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites periodically.
Qualifications
  • Applicants selected must have minimum 4+ years of relevant electrical experience OR associate’s degree with minimum 2+ years of relevant electrical experience OR Bachelor’s degree with minimum 1+ years of relevant electrical experience OR minimum 8+ years of relevant electrical experience with a HS diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid/active U.S. Work Authorization.

Candidate Expectations:

  • Electronics installation and/or maintenance on multiple systems.
  • Using trade drawings (e.g., architectural, electrical, mechanical, and civil) to identify potential design and installation problems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including sections of NETA ATS/MTS, NEC, NFPA 70E, etc.

Desired / Advantageous Qualifications:

  • OEM certified field service training program.
  • Certifications (desired/advantageous): NETA level III or IV preferred.

  • Exposure to computer screens for an extended period of time.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Have finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.
